Our family is blessed with Avalon

Our overall experience has been excellent. I have peace knowing that my mother is being taken care of. Of course she would prefer to be home but her needs exceed what I am capable of. I am pleased with the care she is received thus far. I have visited many facilities and my mother had a brief stay at one before coming to Avalon. I knew our family made the right choice in choosing Avalon. The staff has been attentive and nurturing. It truly takes a good heart to be a caregiver, it's not just a paycheck for the staff. The admissions nurse was very knowledgeable and very informative about the process. Our family is blessed with Avalon

Our experience

Dad ended up as a single occupant in a semi private room, so the room size was perfect for him. Overall, having him here was a good experience. When he went on hospice care, we were able to use our provider of choice, and the staff worked well with the hospice staff. The activities were limited at best. Not at all as advertised. My sister and I made frequent visits to spend time with him, play cards, and celebrate occasions. He was able to receive visitors easily, and with whatever frequency he desired. His bedding was not always his, but it was adequate and he never went without. Warm foods were often cold by the time it was served to him. They were also good at streamlining his dietary needs as required. Generally, the caregivers were respectful, loving and I witnessed them to be good at meeting residents where they were. At the end, Dad had a wound on his ankle, and someone tried to put a compression sock over his big gaping wound. Of all the times for them to keep him in compression socks!!!! Really? I was not pleased that a good number of his care staff did NOT speak English. There were enough that did to get by, but I'm sure Dad was not able to talk with the ones with limited English skills. When he needed to go to the hospital, those transitions were smooth and good. We had to use a transportation service to get him to and from dr. appointments, and that was always smooth. We were able to pay one of the caregivers to go to appointments with him (along with me) which was very helpful.

Thank goodness for Avalon!

The people are so kind, and dad has been really happy there. Staying engaged with your person seems to help the personalized attention received. The promised 'schedule' of things is somewhat unreliable, but overall, we're still very happy with our choice. Because residents spend most of their time in the community area, they are not in their rooms much to take phone calls. However, if you call the facility phone, they will take the phone to your loved one so you can connect.

Best Experience

My experience with Avalon has been nothing but exceptional. Throughout my husband’s stay, the staff demonstrated a high level of dedication and provided truly excellent care. Their team consistently showed compassion, professionalism, adaptability, and genuine concern for residents and families alike. During the challenging move from home to memory care, they offered extraordinary support that made a difficult process more manageable for both of us.

Wonderful Experience

We recently placed my 94-year-old mother at Avalon Memory Care Arlington, and I cannot express how grateful our family is for the experience so far. Making this decision was incredibly emotional, but from the very first interaction, we felt supported and reassured. The Admissions Nurse, Michelle, was outstanding—professional, knowledgeable, and genuinely compassionate. She took the time to walk us through every step of the process, answered all of our questions with patience, and made what could have been an overwhelming transition feel manageable and respectful. Her guidance gave us confidence that we were making the right choice for our mom. The environment at Avalon feels warm and caring, and it’s clear that residents are treated with dignity and kindness. Knowing my mother is in capable, compassionate hands has given us tremendous peace of mind. I would highly recommend Avalon Memory Care Arlington to any family facing this difficult decision.

Amazing care for our mom

Our family is incredibly grateful for the compassion and care shown to my mom during her time in memory care. As a daughter, trusting others with her well-being was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done, but the staff made that decision easier every single day. They treated my mom with dignity, patience, and genuine kindness, always taking the time to understand her as a person, not just a resident. Communication was excellent, and I always felt informed and included. Knowing my mom was safe, respected, and cared for with such empathy gave me peace of mind that I can never fully put into words. I will always be thankful for the support they provided to both my mom and our family during such a challenging chapter. I highly recommend this memory care community to any family facing a similar journey.

It's a joy to visit because the residents genuinely look happy. I often hear laughter coming from the activity room. They do a great job creating a positive, fun-loving atmosphere despite the challenges of the disease.

My parents were residents here

We had to make a decision to move my parents after our mother fell at home and fractured her hip. After the surgery, she really went down hill fast and needed a lot of care. My dad was insistent that they remain together. We were so thankful that Avalon allowed my dad to move in as well so that they could stay together. As it turns out, our dad was needing more help in many areas than we realized. Mom passed away first, but dad loved the staff so much that we wanted to stay. He followed mom in passing just 6 months after she did. We will be forever grateful to the staff for their loving care for our parents.

My father was at Avalon Memory Care Arlington & had excellent care

I wish we had known about Avalon Memory Care sooner in dad's illness. We were just so scared to make the wrong decision and had heard horror stories of people getting really bad care. The Admissions Nurse really made us feel so comforted. She met with us multiple times, came out to the house and just walked us through, step by step. The staff came along beside our family in a big way and not only made dad feel at home, but made us feel a sense of peace. They became part of our family. We will always be so grateful to Avalon.

Care for my mother and now sister at Avalon

A little over 8 years ago, we moved our mom into Avalon in Arlington. She had really good care, and they took care of mom until she passed away. We did not expect, fast forward 8 years, that we would need to place my sister in Memory Care. She is much younger than my mother was when she developed Dementia. This was very unexpected and difficult for my family. My sister was so vibrant and full of energy. When the time came and we couldn't take care of her at home, we knew the only place to call was Avalon. What is incredible, is the same lady that moved in my mom was still there and helped us with every detail of moving in my sister. Also, the majority of the staff that cared for my mom, was still there. I was shocked, but so grateful. Seeing these same familiar faces again, made this difficult process, so much easier.

Excellent Care of my father

My father was a resident here for a little over 2 years. Th same staff took care of him the entire time. I loved the consistency and getting to know the staff. They really knew my dad and loved him. As he declined over the years, they adjusted care to his needs. He was able to pass away peacefully on hospice, with our family by his side. Avalon was so supportive of my brother and I. We are so thankful.

Lack of care

I would tell others to make sure they know up front that if their person's health deteriorates they will not be accommodated and will have to leave. Know the medications and get a copy regularly so that if they have to go to the hospital, you have confidence that the list sent is accurate. Know they can move you without notice. Keep a list of all furnishings; clothes, bedding, furnishings. Get pictures of wounds and damage to furnishings. Know your rights with regard to payments. If they tell you to leave, you don't have to if you have already paid for the month.

Moved dad into Avalon following a stroke

My dad had a stroke a few months ago that left him with weakness, inability to communicate and confusion. He had started having memory issues before his stroke, but he was still managing at home. We were told at the hospital to find a nursing home, but we are so glad that we looked for other options. Avalon staff has been so good to my dad. They show genuine care for him and many of them have been with Avalon a very long time.
