Review for Chesapeake Place Senior Living

I can honestly say I was not very impressed with that facility pretty much why I didn't go back there I took her back to Chesapeake place they were terribly understaffed very rarely could you find an aid without having to walk the halls for a while and go to the break room most of the time several problems with housekeeping because of you know mom being incontinent and not knowing where she is and you know pooping in the floor and it pretty much just stayed there and drive to concrete I go every other day to see her so I get to see a lot of things but yeah for the price I was not impressed at all with the place so his [name removed] saying it's a pig with lipstick on but it's just like everywhere else they're just very short staffed they did all for good activities you know once or twice a day they could get her to do activities that's one of my complaints about protein they sit in the room all day and watch TV

Chesapeake Place Senior Living

The facility was consistently under staffed. One time I called and only the receptionist was in the building. There was another staff member in the memory care side but not the ALF. The facility will not communicate or respond to simple questions. The facility does not notify you about injuries to residents. The facility has regular turnover in the executive director position and other staff. They do not notify the family point of contact. The facility did not keep the room clean. The custodial staff regularly blamed my father for messes in his room, even though he is in the facility because he needed assistance. I can not offer any recommendation for a family to consider this facility, and I would recommend that A Place for Mom remove it from its search database.

Could be better

There has been a frequent overturn of Directors, nurses and staff. NOT chef prepared meals. Apartments not cleaned well. Clothes items frequently missing.

My families experience

Mind you my Mother was in the Dementia care unit. There were several things that were unsatisfactory and needed fixing. They were not included in the events that took place in the main building. The alarm system for the doors was completely unsat. Many times I stood outside, before someone answered. The charge nurse was hardly over in the unit. Your staff of caretakers were over worked and under paid, but managed to take care of my Mothers needs very well. I would not recommend this place to anyone.

Nothing changes but the directors, nurses and staff

The 2 years my Mom has been here has been SO frustrating. Director after director come and go. They have trouble keeping an lpn ( nurse) and staff are constantly leaving. Staff don't give report so communication between each shift is non existent . We get frustrated that we were promised all this care ( for an increase price) but the staff isn't aware of what is needed. They cannot possibly keep up with all they NEED to do even once they are informed ( by us) and then good ones leave. This looks like a nice place, and it could be if [name removed] would just get their act together here.

Very satisfied

4. Overall I'm very pleased with the facility. As a nurse myself, I have high standards for quality of care so I'm sure I'm tough on that. They charge a level of care fee so be prepared to clearly discuss what your loved one needs, and don't overestimate what they can do. Also they have a beauty salon with a stylist on Tuesdays. My mother loved this. It's not included in the price, but it's very reasonable. Food is good too.

Highly recommended

Chesapeake Place was great for my dad. He did well there. He was treated with kindness and respect by all staff members. I would highly recommend them to anyone. The price is a little steep but then again most memory care facilities are quite expensive.

Our families have experience and would not recommend.. need many improvements. Such as maintenance, cleanliness.........

Friendliness and dedication of the nurses that I like most of the facility. They have many things to improve on: cleanliness, especially the floors in memory care. Many improvements need to be maintained. I feel that memory care is often forgotten in the activity spectrum...the residents need more motivation. The quality of care is lacking due to short staff issues. Also, the memory care security door needs to be addressed. They need personnel just to let in and out visitors. The nurses are too busy taking care of residents and don't need to be running back and forth every time someone needs to come in or go out. I have waited outside the door several times for a lengthy time for someone to respond. Our families have experience and would not recommend.. need many improvements. Such as maintenance, cleanliness short staffed and better activities.

Hoping for improvements

Part of the experience was on my mom. She went to Chesapeake Place with the attitude that she wasn't going to participate. She only went to the dining hall a few times and wanted her meals brought to her room. She didn't extend herself as far as making friends or participate in any activities. She entered hospice care the last few months she was there and we had issues getting the staff to follow the nurses instructions on feeding and food preparation. Like most of these facilities they were short handed and mom had to wait quite a while for response to her call button. The night staff nurse seemed to be more attentive on checking on her and giving medication. I did not experience any rudeness or lack of professionalism with the daily staff but some of the admin staff was not very responsive. My sister actually contacted their corporate office and reported them. The main issue after she entered hospice was lack of attentiveness and assistance with eating and the food preparation. She was supposed to have puréed food or food that was cut into small pieces and staff was to assist in feeding. They continued to give her "regular" food and would just drop off her tray and leave. She also experienced several falls while there. Staff would come in and find her in the floor. People told us that these facilities don't like it when residents are in hospice because they feel they are being "watched." I don't know if that was the case but it did seem that the staff did not appreciate the hospice nurses. Several of the nurses did state that they had some difficult interactions with the staff.
