Very friendly

We love this place. There's lots to do, friendly staff, always willing to take you places. Bad things are maintenance because it's an old building, laundry room machines always broken, dining hall low staff.

Meridian at Westwood

The turnover in staff concerns me. Why are staff so unhappy that they are leaving so often? I had a negative interaction with one of the staff members, [name removed] (the office manager), regarding their contingency plans for the residents when the air goes out. Her response to me was "What are your contingency plans at your house" in a sarcastic and unprofessional tone. My mom lives there, not with me. My contingency plan is none of her business but the Meridian is mine since that is where my mother resides. I brought the situation up to the director and felt like the situation would be addressed... There is ALWAYS an issue with the air, it seems. Big fans going each time I go to visit. The temperature in the atrium was extremely warm the last few times. However the air seemed to be good at the most recent Family Night. I always take the stairs, I don't think the carpet has ever been cleaned. The stairway is dirty and musty smelling! The carpet desperately needs to be replaced! My mother also complains about the quality and quantity of food served. That concerns me a lot! As much as she is paying each month the food should never be an issue. I feel like they need to invest in new vehicles. Seems like one is always out of commission. My mother has made some friends and sings in the choir! That's a real positive and provides some relief to the stress. It would be nice to receive a response to this survey. Thank you.

We were really impressed with our tour and the level of service we received. If we need to choose this route for our aging father, it would be here.

I was warmly welcomed for my tour! A sign in the lobby welcomed my family and I by name; I was offered refreshments while I waited for my tour, but I didn’t wait long. My tour guide was great; she knew her residents by name, even a little dog! My tour included all aspects of the facility, its accommodations, amenities, functions. I left with a gift of sweet potato bread (in house made and very good) and all questions/concerns answered. The facility keeps their residents engaged, provides transportation for outside facility activities and seems to be very focused on providing the perfect environment for its residents. Although, I am still looking for something a little closer to family, Meridian is #1 now. Thank you for taking time to give me a tour!

Downhill

I can tell you that the place has really gone downhill. No AC on the 6th floor and repairs haven't even started. Been going on for awhile. Food service and quality has also gone way down hill. I am seriously considering moving my Dad

Our experience

The A/C has been on a temp unit for 6 weeks . The maintace people have been there along as my mom has been there , there playing catch up . The laundry rooms machines do not work or work poorly due to lack of maintenance. I have seen a salad served that should of been thrown out. My mother's digestive track ,let's say she's been in the bathroom a bunch. We even brought her to the Doc for testing ,whating for the results.

Meridian at Westwood

The receptionist and staff are always friendly. They advertise that cable is included in the monthly rent, but it is not! The entire interior and furnishings need refreshing; rusted garbage cans, paint peeling, old carpet in hallways, etc The floors in my mother's room are very uneven which is a real tripping hazard There are always activities provided Several available services; hair dresser, massages sometimes, podiatrist, ride services, etc Need more staff at meal services Brochure advertises that meal service is restaurant style which is a huge exaggeration. Residents get breakfast buffet style, standing in line to prepare their own plates and carry their plates to the tables which is difficult for those less mobile

Loved it… moved mom in.

I had toured a few assisted living facilities and found the Meridian. This place is nice and welcoming. The tour with [Name Removed]was very informative and very pleasant! The Meridian used to be an Embassy Suites. The lobby is beautiful and so is the large indoor atrium. The have a big library, theater room, dog area, pool, activities on and off site. They have a short bus that takes them to the store every week. [Name Removed] answered all my questions and helped me with all my paperwork. She even contacted me during the process of moving to offer help. My mom is happy here.

Overall would recommend

I will say that we were blown away with the staff and the atmosphere of the memory care ward. The facility itself goes from independent living all the way to round the clock bed care, so it's very nice to know you won't have to move to another facility if you progress. They also welcome unannounced visitors at all hours, which was a comfort to me. That was probably my biggest fear with regards to my father's care, and they really put me at ease. I was there almost daily and formed a bond with many of them. That said, this facility has a really high turnover, from the entry level positions all the way to the director position. So my experience a couple of years ago may not be the same one that I would have today, I don't know. My father passed away in May of 2024. Probably an entirely new staff.

Plenty of parking and nice amenities. My tour was handled by [name removed] whom is a pleasure to deal with during this Challenging time. The staff was nice and answered all my questions. Looks like they have a multitude of activities with a very large commons area. Price seems better than most and located in a good area with hospital and doctor's offices literally across the street.

Review for Meridian at Westwood

My father is happy there. I am slightly irritated with the place bc they don't clean well and the service elevator has been broken for over 6 months with no sign of repair efforts. My father cannot get his couch delivered as a result. In my opinion, that is poor management and being cheap despite the amount of money they charge my father

Caring and Empathetic Staff

The staff were friendly and welcoming. There was a thoughtful welcome gift provided along with a schedule of events. Staff checked on my mother daily without fail. The residents were kind. However the apartment needed updating. The furniture was old and scratched up. The shower looked like it was patched together. The layout of the bathroom did not support independence as it was necessary to enter into the tub where the toilet was located in order not to get wet after turning on the shower. The rooms were a good size and the layout offered a cozy and homey environment.

The Meridian at Westwood

My comments for #7: my dad is in the memory care unit and they don't do much of anything for them for activities. I feel they should at a minimum, take them outside to get fresh air and that never happens. Facebook posts all of the fun activities, but that is for non-memory care residents. More care should be taken to work individually and engage with those in memory care to help them because many are nonverbal. Before we moved him here I was told that they do work individually with memory care residents to help engage their talking and memory, but that isn't the case. We moved him here so he could be around others since he was lonely at home, and because I saw all the events they planned for them, but the memory care residents aren't included in those generally.

In the 8 years I've lived at The Meridian I love where I live

My favorite part about living here is the friendships I've made with my neighbors . The reason I wanted to live here was the opportunity to live near other people that have similar interest to me. The staff members are always kind, and they make me feel positive about myself.

great experience and great people

I give it a 10 if that was available. I would give the friendliness a 10. The meals and dining services is a tough one because so many of the chefs didn't stay very long. I understand the latest chef who was doing a really good job Also just left. The value for cost is also another tough one. Most of the people there had more money than I did and I was paying [fee removed] a month for a studio apartment, which is why I just moved to Athens, Alabama. I would still give it a five.
