On the other hand, Alabama has some very annoying rules about who can and can't be in assisted living. After a few months there, my mom was diagnosed with a minor swallowing issue, and was immediately given a 45 day eviction notice. To their credit, management offered her a place in the independent living section, where there was a home health service available for hire. We took their offer, but it turned out to be much less satisfactory - the activities were much farther away, she wasn't allowed to eat in the same dining room with her friends, and the home health service was very hit and miss. Mom has played the piano all of her life and really misses her baby grand. The activities director came and took mom over to the independent living portion of the facility so she could play the piano. Mom was so excited to play again and actually had a group that gathered to hear her play.
