Happy with our choice

Prior to staying, the service was great. Sales staff were really welcoming and I felt comfortable in choosing this facility. There was no follow up calls after my dad came home, which made me feel this was purely a business transaction (our stay was only 1 month). Staff always were friendly and helpful. A couple of things happened that made me feel like the communication between admin and staff needed improvement. We opted for a shared room for a better price. Room was comfortable and clean. Enough room for a bed, side table and some space to move around. Bathroom and pantry area were shared and spacious. Laundry service was provided but I was a bit doubtful about the frequency because he came home with nearly a week's worth of laundry. I felt that they should have been prepared for his departure and should have had his laundry done before him leaving. I felt that medication management was maybe not as efficient because when he came home, I checked and some of his medication should have been finished and they weren't. Overall though, I was happy with choosing this facility. Clean, helpful and friendly staff, good security measures to prevent memory care residents from wandering.

About the facility

Our ideas and practices are anchored in

The Poetry of Aging

, our platform for living at Sonnet Hill Senior Living.
Like a poem, each person has their own pace, style and personality. We truly believe that there is no right or wrong way to be yourself.
As lifespans get longer and research gets deeper, we are able to better understand the elements of aging. And while we all have some common needs – like safety, health and comfort – we have many more dynamic needs that shift from year to year, month to month, day to day.
We design our spaces, craft our programs and train our people all to meet different needs at different times. We have a commitment to meeting our resident’s not where they “used to be” or “should be,” but right where they are at.
You are your own poem. Brief or verbose, metered or whimsical, simple or complex—no matter what your style—you are perfect in your own way.

The director was very knowledgeable and direct with any questions I had relating to the facility at Sonnet Hill. Informative and concise relating to the general overall tour of this facility.

If you get in their way while trying to take care of your family member, they retaliate

My significant other spent 11 months there. I was there every day for 6-8 hours. I would come in the Am and leave sometimes at 5 or 6. I was there for a long time and I disagree with the stars they are given. There was often not enough food and my "husband" of 48 years was always hungry. I helped Out a lot. When I would come I would make his bed and even if they had made it, they never put a top sheet on the bed. I didn't like him to sleep under the scratchy blankets. They never got it. Then I would help change him if there were not enough staff. He needed 2 people to change him because he was in hospice and his legs were bent into a sitting position. They would not straighten out, so he was hard to change and since he was a problem they waited til the end of the row of people they would change. I told them he was wet, because I could feel it. They changed everyone else, 22 other people before they got to him. They were passive-aggressive. They would wait.

Nice boutique place, would recommend

They seemed to have a lot of activities planned. My dad didn't really participate and again I didn't really get to see anything. The price is a 5 given what's included in the price- they even included incontinence supplies for us. Being our first experience with respite care, I thought it was expensive, but they have competitive rates compared to the others I visited and theirs was the best deal in the end. I was a little unhappy about these things. I sent over eye drops with his medications. They were on his medication list from his doctor. The box came back unopened so I don't think they gave it to him. I don't think their internal communication is the best. I gave my both my brothers contact numbers and mine as the last since I was going overseas. They had a medical emergency for choking on some food and they only tried calling me. The staff did not have my brothers' numbers. Also, they were not prepared when I came to pick him up even though I had given a date and time. I had to wait for the staff and also they didn't have his medication ready to send home. He came back with a full laundry hamper. Overall, it was a good stay. I would consider them again if we need respite care in the future. Their security on the memory care floor is great - you cannot access the elevator to go up or down because there is a locked door (in addition to the elevator doors) that you can only open with a code. I've never seen this before and was impressed by it.

Overall a nice facility

It was a very nice place but my mother was very unhappy because she wanted to be home, but the facility was just fine no problems - well one problem they couldn't find the morphine on the last day of my mother's life. Give her some relief from pain, but the hospice worker finally showed up with morphine at the facility. Just the person on staff at that time of the day just didn't know where the morphine was but other than that, the place was very well taken care of and a very nice staff, very professional.

Sonnet Hill Senior Living

The management part like Sales was excellent however that's where the communication stops. It was not a good experience at all. [name removed] only stayed there three nights and a half a day and I moved her out. The fact that you need someone to let you up the elevator, someone to let you in the room, it took me forever to find someone just to let me in the room to see [name removed]. All I could think about was what if there was a fire they do not have enough staff to unlock all the doors and evacuate The residence. The staff that takes care of the residence, I did not find them very friendly, I believe there was one person that I thought was really kind

Modern Facilities with Fine Dining

The staff is welcoming and experienced. This smaller size assisted living facility is modern and very clean. The location is close to freeway access and a local market. The only downside for my mother-in-law is not having many Spanish speaking residents.

Review for Sonnet Hill Senior Living

it's a smaller facility so there are times when the staff are slower to respond if they are helping others but overall very good. Of the food I tried I was very impressed, my mom is a foodie though and has a high bar so there are days she's disappointed with the food options but again overall I think the food is very good and I think they provide a good variety, so that means sometimes it might not be my moms favorite.- Overall very pleased with the care, staff and the facility and it is a great value for the money.

Definitely worth a look

It was very clean, friendly staff, the shared rooms were actually quite private, and the price was closer to our budget. I would recommend Sonnet Hill Senior Living as long as they didn't need nursing care because it isn't a nursing home.

Sonnet Hill looked like a great facility. It is brand new so when we took a tour there were very few residents and staff members. I think it seemed like a place that would be a better fit for younger, more independent individuals. It was a great place but just not the right fit for my loved one.
