The Barrington

My overall experience has been mixed. The staff is generally friendly, and some of the dining room staff are very good, although others could be more attentive. The building itself needs a thorough cleaning. The carpets in the hallways are especially disappointing and are in pretty bad shape. We were told they will be replaced with vinyl flooring in January, so we’ll see if that happens. I also think they should have a notary on site for residents and their families. While they do offer traveling notaries, the $[removed] fee is an unnecessary expense, especially for elderly residents who may already have limited resources. They offer TV service through Spectrum, but there is no phone or internet service included, which means another additional expense for residents. It would also be helpful to have washers on every floor. You often see residents having to transport their laundry on walkers and then use the elevator, which can be difficult and inconvenient. There are definitely some positives, particularly the friendly staff, but there are several areas where the facility could improve to make life easier and more comfortable for its residents.

Feels like home

So far, the staff has been perfectly helpful, attentive, respectful, and caring. The "feel" among the residents is extremely positive, especially enthusiasm for activists and group events. Everyone we've met exudes contentment and a sense of thriving. The food is fantastic as is the chef and dining room staff. The décor changes for special events and holidays, which is fun and fresh! The social and activities calendar is plentiful and varied. My parents are very happy with their apartment and all that it offers in size, cleanliness, and view.

Peace of mind

The facility is clean, attractive, and smells nice. The landscape is beautiful. The restaurant style eating with a daily menu of choices is great and the meals are really good. The staff are very friendly and helpful.

Great facility for assisted living not so much memory care

The staff is good some better than others. Not much communication except when there's a problem. Overall they do a good job, rooms are great size. Limited care for memory patients though.

Worst Place.

I am deeply disappointed with our experience at The Barrington. My parents lived there together, and during an already devastating time, the lack of compassion and communication made everything far worse. When my father was placed on hospice, his final wish was to return home so he could pass away next to my mother. The Barrington refused to allow him back unless he was disconnected from the medical machine needed to drain fluid from his lungs. This decision forced my family into an impossible situation and caused my father immense suffering in his final days. No family should ever have to make a choice like that simply to allow loved ones to be together at the end of life. Just days after my father passed away, my mother suffered a fall and was taken to the hospital. She was cleared for discharge the same day, yet The Barrington refused to allow her to return, stating that she was now a “liability.” How do you treat someone like this.

The perfect place for my parents!

The apartments are a perfect size and have a full little kitchen and a nice screened in porch. Their hall is clean and inviting in a homey way. The dining room is nice. The food is great as are the servers. There are many activities daily. The staff has been very friendly, helpful and accommodating. The move in process went quickly and smoothly. I love its location with the pretty trees. It's quiet and peaceful and has a great courtyard. Our experience has been great!

Review for The Barrington

They have plenty of activities for everyone depending on your capabilities and there is always 1 or 2 staff members in attendance to make sure you don't overdo the activity. There are 3 meals/day which are covered by your rent. I am in a one bedroom apartment which is quite adequate for one person. You could almost fit 2 people comfortably in a 1 bedroom but a 2 bedroom apartment would be more comfortable. A 2 bedroom apartment appears to be big enough for 3 or 4 people if that was required....

comfortable atmosphere

The facility is very nice and welcoming. The one bedroom looks more like an apartment than any of the other places we checked into in the area. It is very nice. The care is good and most of the medical team is very kind but it is always a good idea for family to follow up to be sure that medications are being given correctly and other medical levels of care are being followed as outlined.

Excellent Experience

The Barrington has exceptional food service, activities and maintenance. The building is always very well maintained; the meals are creative, large and constantly updating; the staff are very friendly, supportive, familiar and encouraging; and the activities are varied, interesting and accessible. My 85 yo mother has been there for just over a year now and loves being there. She's very grateful we found the Barrington.

Very disappointed

We never physically saw the facility. Our daughter did a tour and had on video phone. We were impressed with the facility so we decided to move there after the first of the year [date removed]. The representative that took care of us, [name removed] [name removed], was very helpful and considerate. He told us they were running a special in [date removed], if you signed up by [date removed], you would get 3rd and 10th months free. My wife, [name removed], had been in the hospital just before Christmas. We thought she would have a normal recovery and we thought we move in by end of January. This being said, they were very thoughtful by letting us have January free. So the last week of[date removed] we paid a community fee of $[fee removed]+ February's rent of $[fee removed]. This is where the trouble started. [name removed] recovery took longer and more complicated. I started having serious back issues so we came to the conclusion that neither of us was in any shape to be making a move of this magnitude. So we had given them $[fee removed] in December and it was now the end of February, so we had to give them March's rent ([fee removed]). In each March, [name removed]was diagnosed with colon cancer. I spoke again with [name removed] and explained all our issues. I asked him if could treat this as a move out. The problem with that was you have to give them 60 days notice. I asked if that could be waived due to our circumstances. He referred me to the general manager a lady named [name removed]. I asked her if they could waive the 60 day notice. She conferred with corporate and they agreed to waive the 60 day notice but we would have to pay March's rent of $[fee removed], which I unfortunately did. So now we have given them $[fee removed] They did agree to refund us the community fee of $[fee removed]. I then asked if they could refund the whole amount due to our circumstances. She said that we signed a legal contract and they could not refund the full amount. So that ends up to us having paid them $[fee removed] for absolutely nothing.

Moved back after 10 years

I was a previous resident 10 years ago and wanting to move back. I called and was walked through the steps of moving in. I love my apartment, it is very spacious and has plenty of space to walk with your wheelchair or walker. All the activities related to exercise are really good. It is everyday and the ladies who do it are great. I am not a fan of bingo but they have it daily for those that are. There aren’t many activities in the evening but I really enjoy when we have outings to restaurants and wish we had more. The dining room serves plenty of food with all my meals. Most of the staff is awesome with a couple exceptions.

Only great experiences here!

I moved in 2 months ago and have had no issues. I love my apartment here and everyone is so nice. I love all they do for the holidays. We got to go out and see Christmas lights in the area and had a tree lighting here at the Barrington! The physical therapy company in the fitness center is fantastic!
