The friendliness of the staff and spectrum of clients living at The Retreat was impressive. [name removed] gave me a tour and was very informative about the facility. The facility is on a smaller scale and the atmosphere gave a homey feeling. The location provided a plus to the decision. I would recommend to others.

Many things changed when then facility manager left. It went from bad to worse shortly after my dad passed. The who place dropped to an overall 2. It was never very clean but I have been been shown recent pictures of roaches in rooms and problems with several memory care patients having bedbugs. Most of permanent staff left and there were a lot of Temps who don't really care about the residents. My dad's needs were met but I know he was not getting showers like he should have. Not to mention that he contracted Covid from the facility and it killed him. The food was never anything to write home about. My dad's main gripe was breakfast. Grits, which he didn't like, eggs, which he couldn't eat, and toast, which was all he could eat. Lunch and dinner weren't great but I heard that it has gone way down. They used to have snacks in the afternoon, no more. When [name removed] was the Activity manager he did great things with the residents. They went on trips 2 xs monthly to museums, restaurants the mall, even the festival of lights. He played games...all kinds of things. Since he left, it is my understanding they don't do anything. One of the reasons why my dad was there was because of the cost of care. His room was a little 12 ft x 12 ft. for [fee removed] monthly but his care was only [fee removed] If my dad was still alive I would have moved him out of there months ago. I would not recommend it to anyone, especially someone who cannot advocate for themselves.

The place started off great, when selling you to get in. It was all bad afterwards. I don't have anything good to say about them. They were nice to me, until I started voicing my concerns. They did have a nice TV area, & had musicians come in. Crappy food served in cheap Styrofoam containers & paper plates.

Nice office staff but they only do paperwork and work days M - F. The workers that take care of residents is VERY POOR. Unstaffed. So a worse on letting your love stay there. This was the Memory care rooms not the other portion.

We picked this community, because of the staff's friendliness and willingness to work with us. Even though this place is older, the quality of care they give your loved one far outweighs the age of the home. Also, the staff is caring, and they provide comfort for the residents, and parents as well.

I absolutely recommend the Retreat over all the other places. Your loved one will be in good hands!!!They had the best price, I actually liked the staff. They didn't seem phony. I felt like they had control over the residents, and it was the cleanest facility I saw out of 8 places.

I toured this facility and really liked it. The room was a little smaller compared to other places in the area. But the price was good, it was clean, the people were very friendly, and the residents looked happy. It's a smaller community.

They took care of my dad in his last days when we weren't able to and didn't know how to. The staff were so caring, the food was outstanding, the place was always so clean, and daddy was well cared for.

Right off the bat: I'm not 100% happy with The Retreat. They have a high turnover rate for staff, and some of these individuals don't seem very well trained. There have been times when the place has not been as clean as I would prefer. I think it's gotten better in recent months, but, as I said, the staff turns over very quickly, so I will not count on the relative improvement remaining going forward. As for my loved one's care, prescriptions are administered carefully. From what I can see, her bed is always cleaned, which is good as she is incontinent. The food is adequate. For activities, I see them playing bingo, that sort of thing, which doesn't really interest my loved one. The Retreat has the least expensive rates of all of these places that I have looked at, and is actually about the most I can afford. It's actually a bit painful as it is. If I could afford better I wouldn't leave my loved one there. Overall, I'd rate it "adequate".

I was very impressed with The Retreat at Summerville. It was a very elegant facility. We ended up choosing another community simply because their waiting list was so long. Shortly after making the move, I got a call from them letting us know that they had an opening, which was puzzling considering how long we were told the waiting list was. I felt like they could have been more assertive initially to capture our business.

The community was more expensive than we wanted. It had a locked memory care unit and it didn't have a homey feel to it.

We recently toured the Retreat for my grandfather. The staff were excellent. They were very accommodating, answered all of our questions and showed us around the entire building. The building is clean and the residents seem very happy. The y have alot of activities like games and socials things for their residents and even have outside entertainers like bands and magicians for their residents. They were very reassuring to us and we felt like this might be a great fit for Grandad when the time comes.

My parents lived here for four months and it was a nightmare. Staff greeted us and assured us of good care for our parents, but as time went on I learned of several incedents that happened but was twisted around . Details on some things are on my Google reviews. 1. Neglect- forgot to bring them food twice when in quarantine. Didn't give drinks when in quarantine. Served warm water and sodas in bottles with no ice. 2. Verbal abuse- staff would talk rude many times and once cussed out my parent. Many times staff would be disrespectful to parent's and family members 3. Physical abuse- yanked my parent's wheelchair around and forcefully wheeled them into their room 4. food served cold at times in dining room.was not always appealing nor nutritious 5. Executive director [name removed] had covered up what other workers were doing wrong or make up excuses instead of coming to our parent's defence. 6. Medication was not always given and sometimes missing 7. Clothes not washed every week 8. Clothes and linen missing 9. Wouldn't let my dad call family or at least get a message to them. 10. Once my mom called me about something going on there that upset her I heard staff say to her not to tell family about everything going on there

This facility has black mold and termites in the independent living apartments out back. Several people have been sick because of unhealthy living. This place is a dump.
