I was really sad when i left this community the atmosphere was very sad. There was a strong odor throughout the whole place. It was clean and organized but it was a much older community. I didn't feel like this was the place for my loved one. They did offer meal plans and activities but the layout didn't meet our needs.

Our mother, Virginia Radovich, has been a resident of the Emeritus in Bakersfield for one year. Our mother suffers from Macular Degeneration. When we first spoke to the management, we were assured our mother would receive personal assistance in every day activities, as well as assistance in her involvement with craft activities. This never happened. What happened was our mother sitting in her room alone, confused and depressed. The only activity the employees made sure was her going to meals and receiving her medications. As a family, we tried to get her involved in the calendared activities, only to find out that about 50% of them were cancelled by the "Life Enrichment Director." We then requested (through medical staff) one of the aides to spend one hour a day with our mother, taking her for walks, talking with her, reading to her. We are more than willing to cover the cost of this special attention. I was assured that this would be done, however, when I called to confirm at one time, I was told it had happened right after lunch. To my surprise, my mother had been with me to an appt. before lunch and was still in my vehicle, and in fact, it was a lie. After about a month, we cancelled this request. I asked for a bill to be sent to me, and I was told that there was no charge, convincing us that it never happened no matter what we were told. There are many lonely, isolated people at Emeritus. I realize that in the corporate America world, if it looks good on paper, it's good. However, actual application with human beings is what tells the tale. I see no practical application with the residents of Emeritus.

My mother was moved to Emeritus due to their favorable reports to us (her four children) that she would be able to join in activities even w/ her very poor eye sight....this has not happened. We have asked for extra help w/: her diet...keeping her diet lo sodium due to swelling; that request was denied. We found it disturbing that in an Assisted Living Facility special dietary needs could not be considered...even if they were vital to the patient's health and we'll being. We asked if someone could walk w/ our mother for a half hour each day around the facility. We were told it would happen...it never did. My mother has a button around her neck like a Life Alert and it is to be used if she needs to call down to the desk for emergency or a need. I was with her one evening, she had locked hers,ef out of her room. We both pushed the button numerous times trying to get help to get into her room. Finally we found her key, got into her apt. And I called the front desk to ask if we had not used the call button correctly or possibly the battery was dead. I asked someone to take a look at it. That didn't happen. She had no way to get help if she could not get to her land line phone. My mother came to my niece's for a 3 day visit, during which time my niece bathed her and to her shock my mom (her grandmother) had not been getting her backside clean. It took some soaking and cleaning to remedy the problem. Our hope was that someone would check her every once in awhile due to her health issues and sight problems. My sister began to call daily to have someone remind our mother about the activities planned for the day. The front desk said they had told mom but then many times the activities were cancelled. This left my mom very disappointed so many times as she doesn't interact much and the activities were a great way for her to interact but about half the time, the activity was cancelled. Our brother called the main headquarters to discuss this problem and he was told that no activities had been cancelled....but that was not accurate. We have experienced very few of the "promises" made when the family came to look at Emeritus and see if it was a good fit for our mother w/ her sight restrictions, etc. I would like for you to get a review from my two sisters and my brother. We each have similar complaints and disappointments w/ Emeritus and we each have our own experiences. Consequently we are moving our mother out of Emeritus on August 15. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions. Lynn Trombetta [removed]. Thank you for the opportunity to share my/our experience w/ Emeritus. I had also called to express my concerns to A Place For Mom a few weeks ago....

Our experience was very disappointing overall. When we first brought my sister in, no one greeted us. We had to search for someone to tell us her room number and where it was located. After that, we were basically left on our own and told very little about what to expect or what to do. We spent about an hour just wandering around until dinner. The cleaning was acceptable some of the time, but there were major issues. During the first week, all of her clothes went missing. I purchased all new clothes, and within a few weeks those items disappeared as well. We were never reimbursed, and every time we asked about the missing clothing, we were simply told they would “look for them,” but nothing was ever resolved. Eventually, I started doing her laundry myself. One day, my nephew visited and found bloody paper towels in the bathroom, garbage overflowing, and the room in poor condition. The quality of care was unacceptable. She often did not receive her medications, and she was regularly served food she could not eat, such as salads, despite missing many of her teeth and being unable to chew properly. She lost a significant amount of weight while there and became very gaunt. I understand she was not very mobile, but she still needed proper nutrition and care. Whenever we visited, there rarely seemed to be staff around. Usually there was one person sitting at the station, if anyone at all, and no one else to be found. While some staff members appeared friendly on the surface, my sister frequently complained about how mean they were to her. Administration was only somewhat satisfactory. They never addressed the issue with her missing clothes or took meaningful action. Their response was always vague and dismissive. As for activities, I rarely saw any taking place. One day I visited and saw residents getting their nails done, playing games, and participating in activities, but my sister was never included. I do not know whether she declined participation, but staff should have at least offered her the opportunity by bringing her in her wheelchair and asking if she wanted to join. Considering the cost — approximately $[Amount removed] per month — we absolutely did not receive the level of care we were paying for. She was not properly fed, did not consistently receive medications, and spent most of her time sitting in front of the television with very little interaction or engagement. We eventually brought her home on [Date Removed] so I could care for her myself. She gained weight while living with me, but caregiving became extremely stressful because I was balancing her care with many other responsibilities. Later, we moved her to a private care home, where she is now receiving excellent care. Her meals have been adapted so she can eat comfortably, she receives proper grooming and foot care, and she appears much happier overall. In my opinion, this facility is not equipped to properly care for individuals with advanced dementia. Families should understand that people with dementia require specialized attention and compassionate care, and unfortunately, we did not find that here.

Weatherly Court does not know how to train nor keep employees. Revolving door. They told me my father refused showers. He is in memory care use your skills and get give him a shower. The private caregiver I hired never had an issue. Management turn over, no consistency and the building smells of urine.

Daily food has lost its luster. What used to be fabulous is now lacking. This has been brought up several times with no change. Very disappointing. The cleaning staff has left, and clean rooms are in the past. Residents are cleaning and vacuuming their own rooms now. Residents have complained but again nothing has happened. Most residents won’t complain for fear of being kicked out. Feel free to contact me, I’ll help.

Be aware and ask for the staff turn over rate - especially how many Executive Directors have changed in a three year period. We are moving our mother out ASAP. Not providing basic care services being paid for. No help at bathing / showering, dressing, lacking basic check and balance. Current Executive Director is putting the blame back to the client that they are responsible to take care of - no communication back to the family that there is any issues. Ethics are lacking and also core values. Facilities do not fix items that are broke or unserviceable.

You have to look past the amenities and experience the level of care. My first observation was that they didn’t provide the level of care that you are paying for. The medical staff is disorganized and poorly trained. You must follow up on every directive or change in medical orders to insure they are being following. Their record keeping is also incomplete. The newly hired executive director provides nothing but ingenious lip service and complaints memorialized in writing are unanswered

We were informed that we could move in on a Sunday which suited our needs. Then when we showed up, there was no staff there. There was no oxygen for our loved one that needed some, and they should have known that he needed it. The entire ordeal was not good and we ended up having to move our loved ones out there after going through the trouble of getting them in there. During the short time they were there the care was not very good either. It took them a long time to answer when buzzed for care needed. We didn't have a good experience at all.

Don't put your parent here! My parent lives here and it is horrible! There were roaches in the apartment and they didn't address the issue. They charge for services they did not provide. The washers and dryers are always broken but they do not put out of order signs on them because they do not want prospective residents to see they are broken. They frequently run out of entrees for meals so instead of a real dinner or lunch residents get sandwiches. They sell you on transportation to doctor appointments but it is so hard to coordinate with their schedule that they have to schedule them for you and they charge you for it. If you love your parent DO NOT put them in this place!

Moms room flooded while she was staying for a short while at Brookdale Vacaville and the staff just left her in there. It took forever for them to let her change rooms. She never got a bath the whole time she was there. She was also sick one day and no nurse came to check her out . She just had a terrible experience. I am having her stay again in October and hoping the experience goes much better. If it doesn't we will never have her stay at this facility again. They did give us 2 free days for the stay. I will also say the staff was very nice there.

The "memory care" unit is horribly understaffed and a dangerous place for people to live. The director, Ronnette "Ronnie" Lelfore, is dishonest and will straight up ignore your phone calls if you want information about your loved one. There are smaller residences called "board and care" facilities that have a much better patient to caregiver ratio and actually care about their residents (I wish I had known these existed earlier). The staff at Emeritus provides the bare minimum of what is required by law, and will treat your family member as if their safety and comfort means nothing. There is a severe lack of concern for administering medications at the correct timing intervals, helping family members to reduce fall risk for residents, and ensuring that residents are fed a proper diet. Please take your money and your loved one elsewhere.
