I toured this facility while looking for a place for my loved one. However, I didn’t choose this community because it was older and I was looking for a brand new place. The décor was okay and it felt homey. The person who gave me the tour was friendly and knowledgeable. What I really liked about the rooms is the layout. I would recommend this facility to other families.

This community was a little more expensive than what we were looking for. The rooms were smaller than what we were looking for. The people we met were nice and the community seemed clean.

Good Experience

My mother is doing well with the transition into the community. The community is pretty well-kept and clean. The staff is very kind and helpful to us. They do offer good activities for the residents. Overall it has been a good experience so far, and I would recommend this community.

Not for me!

It was bait & switch, in my case. The one that sold me the place quit right after I moved in & it was all downhill from there. The rent was higher; no work orders were honored & the personal trainer vanished. I found the residents to be cliquey & the rooms were small. People were constantly coming in my room. I high-tailed it back to [community removed].

Review for Gencare Lifestyle of Federal Way

Bathrooms are not set up for handicapped. Resident has to provide own seat/chair. Shower does not have appropriate handholds on one side of wall to enter/exit shower. Lift seat not available for toilet. Linoleumfloors very slippery throughout. Necessary to wear rubber-soled shoes/slippers. Cannot even walk barefoot. One locking cabinet too high to access. Rooms are not secure; theft occurred twice in my room. Most employees have master key to all resident rooms. Safes not available. Projects made by residents are not returned. My one-bedroom was wonderful. Dishes are not washed when cleaning once a week, (not any). Exercise program is excellent! Ridiculous movie situation for tenants. Complimentary transportation is about non-existent. Food is good. All employees should not have access to rooms without residents knowledge. I will bring indoor video monitor if ever placed in a similar place.

Ensure to do your due diligence and understand all documentation.

Gencare staff seemed capable and overall decent, but not exceptional. We did feel they were a little deceptive on rates and pricing. They have different layers on billing, and my father felt like they were not very forthcoming on the different billing structures. Overall, it was clean and seemed OK.

No place is perfect

Most staff are friendly and responsive. Activities are generally interesting. The food experience is inconsistent, with some food shortages lately. Other recent issues: room entry w/o permission; Removing our room keys w/o telling us; food shortages; Does not seem open to suggestions.

Meals and more staff to help the people in wheelchairs and that need extra help. Yes, I would recommend the community to other families even though it is very negative. When we first moved there it wasn't bad, but after January it went down hill. They let a lot of staff go. And got a new cook, and that is when the meals began to get bad

Billing issues

They keep messing up our billing and overcharging us. I've had to have it fixed twice. They were charging for services they were not providing and for services we didn't need. Also, the food is pretty bad. Otherwise it's been very good. But those are two pretty important factors.

Our Experience

Housekeeping is good. On the independent side where we're at now, they are moving to an a la carte or market basket approach. Housekeeping, meals, etc are added to rent. So far, activities are not extra. That makes sense. I would recommend, based on our experience so far. Folks who have been here for a few years seem to think it was better back in the day. Better food, mostly. We tend to keep to ourselves, so movies, etc don't affect us much. Trying to please a bunch of cranky old people has to be a challenge.

We're looking for a temporary housing solution for my 95-year old mom for two weeks. The Lodge seemed to have everything we need. I would have given 4 stars, but we were told by the director that the minimum stay was 30 days. That is more than what we need. This news was disappointing.

Mom Was Not Pleased

This is a nice community, but my mother wasn't very pleased, so she has decided she wants to move. She is pleased with the food. They take a while to fix things. Other then those issues I think it is a nice place. Everybody is friendly and kind. They do offer activities for the residents. It is a nice safe community, my mother just wasn't very happy.
