Most of the people are very nice (especially at the front desk), but it's over-priced for what is provided. Food is not as advertised "from scratch" or even that tasty, very few drink selections, activities director and guy in charge of laundry are not kind or loving. Resident laundry and room cleaning is not done consistently every week as promised. Residents seem ok with it, but I think the staff is just overworked and don't have time for caring for or enjoying the residents.

Our mother has been at Brookdale Oakwell for a while now and has made it her home. For the most part she finds it to be a great place. The only problem is that the promise of daily entertaining activities and exercises is sorely deficient. The person who directs these, while pleasant, is often sick, walks out of exercise groups leaving the residents looking at one another, and when she does do the exercises, they are set to spa music and consist of nothing of substance that would help people get stronger. We ask that you please find someone energetic, enthusiastic and knowledgeable to be head of activities for the sake of all residents, and not just the 2 or 3 persons who attend her events. Thank you.

It really really went downhill from the time we moved in. We moved out when they raised the rate and were having major issues. They didn't have any real nurses in staff. Paying for assistance that was non-existence. The value for the money was not there. It has a lot of potential but seems to have a struggle with keeping management and staffing. I had security concerns as well.

Everything was excellent in this facility. After touring Sodalis Windcrest, which was closer to my house, I decided on [community name removed]. The studio room had a better layout which made them look more spacious. The cost was significantly less than Brookdale. Overall, I was happy with Brookdale but [community name removed] was a better fit.

Facility is well-kept; clean in all areas; landscaping is nice, and it is located in a good area of San Antonio, not in an industrial area. Staff are nice, caring people; very patient and they listen to concerns/feedback.

Our family has had an extremely disappointing experience with this facility. Despite clear guardianship authority and court orders, the community allowed our relative to be manipulated into signing unauthorized financial paperwork (including an ACH withdrawal) that removed funds from her account. This happened while she was under legal guardianship and unable to manage her own finances, which should never have been permitted. Security and supervision are severely lacking. There is often no one at the front desk, and strangers have been seen entering the building freely—including individuals who previously took advantage of residents. Even after repeated reports and documented warnings, these same individuals have continued visiting the property unchecked. The food quality is poor, and our family member consistently reports that meals are unappetizing and inconsistent with what was promised when she moved in. The caregivers that took care of mom during her last days were very patient and caring with her. They tried to accommodate her differently eating requests which helped so much. [name removed] was a sweetheart as well. She did everything she could to help the staff.

We were there at a time when they lacked a facility director. As a result staff had no leader, distribution of prescriptions was incoherent, food service was inconsistent. We visited this facility a few weeks ago to visit a resident who recently left [community removed] and upon entering the facility experienced a different facility. Would strongly suggest that anybody looking at Brookdale so research and visit the facility at different times of the day.

Although my mom's care here is 100 times better than her previous facility [community removed] there have been some growing issues with lack of communication when reaching out to administrators (Wellness Director), no one answers the phone after hours or on the weekends on a regular basis, and the wait times after my mom presses her pendant have increased exponentially since she moved in and my mom is on the highest care possible that Brookdale offers.

Brookdale was absolutely wonderful to both my wife and me! All 5's! You weren't there so you don't know how good these people are. Each of these individual folks whether they be the nurse or an aid or the housekeeper or the cook or even the guy that runs the place. Each and every one of them treated my wife not just with dignity and respect, but you could tell that they actually cared. Plus they cared for me. One day I had hurt myself on the way in And I had a bad cut on my arm and the nurse took her time and her effort and she cleaned my wound and fixed it all up just like as if she was my own daughter. This is the kind of a place that there is not enough good to say about it. After my wife had passed, they still called and still ask how I was doing.

I do not recommend this place. They were always understaffed. They promised to fix shelves, backed up sink, and issues with roach's and ants that were never resolved after multiple requests. Understaffing resulted in lack of timely check ins with our family when requested. Most of the staff was very kind and gentle and there was one occasion when an employee was very rough with my father in law in front is my mother in law. He was non verbal and grunting from discomfort and despite requests from my mother in law for the woman to stop bc it was hurting him it was never addressed. Dirty dishes were left for multiple days and the refrigerator that was provided did not keep the food cool causing the food to go bad quickly.

We are incredibly pleased with the care and services provided to our mom by Brookdale Oakwell. The staff are exceptionally kind, attentive, and genuinely seem to care about the residents. The activities (and the activities director) keep her busy and happy. Most importantly, mom feels at home. We highly recommend.

As you know my Wife was diagnosed, by the VA with dementia. I moved into assisted living to be with her Once I moved in it was determined that she passed all the dementia testing and no longer needed to be in Memory Care. Rather than pay for her to move in with me, we made the decision to relocate permanently to a 2 bedroom apartment at [community name removed] enabling us to utilize Long Term Care Insurance. Brookdale at Oakwell Farms is going through a transitional period following an ineffective Executive Director. The transitional administration is working hard to restore this facility to its previous state of the art facility
