Staff are professional and mostly kind. Nurses are good about updating me about any changes in Mom's condition. The food could be better. It's a more home-like environment and smaller, which might appeal to those who would feel kind of lost in a bigger setting. Overall I would recommend.

The biggest frustration is the level of after-hours staffing. This is probably not uncommon but if someone needed serious attention late at night it would be a while before they would be attended to. Visiting my mother I get stuck outside way too long waiting for help entering/exiting. We also had a bed bugs situation that wasn't handled very well by all involved. We like Brookdale Oakwood and we're not too critical, but the housekeeping/overall cleanliness/age of building, etc. contribute to its Value score. They try very hard and we'll be happy, but I'm not sure I would recommend this Brookdale community.

The facility doesn't resemble an institution so much as a beautiful, quiet home. The winding staircase and layout of the common rooms reinforce this feeling. Patios and outside areas are very nice, well cared for, and also quiet, given that the building is adjacent to Far Hills Avenue. The staff is very friendly and responsive. The way in which the nursing services are provided and priced on an ala carte basis helps ensure residents receive and pay for only the care they need. This makes the facility a more affordable alternative to large scale institutions.

I like the staff at the facility. They are willing to help in anyway that they can and helped me with the transition by listening to me during really difficult times I like that the common areas stay very clean. I like how they serve the residents food in the dining area. I do not like that they are not staffed according to needs especially on the weekends. The cleaning lady only works every other weekend and I have not been there but once and did not have to clean my loved ones room, clean off the toilet seat, clean the counter and floor at times. Other members of our family have visited at times and they have found the room not kept. Staff is short on the weekend more than any other time. When I spoke to the director about it she told me she was not understaff and seemed defensive about it. I don't like that my loved one is left alone 2 hours at a time sometimes more. My loved one is in assistant living but declining so they may need more care. The activities are not as told to me at the signing of the lease. The activities are not consistently planned. Overall, I don't feel my dad is getting the individual care I had hoped for. He is housed, fed and cared for to the best of the aides ability, with all the residents they are covering. I don't feel that one aide for 2 floors is acceptable. This is usually on the weekends. Improvement is needed with staffing and listening to the concerns of family members. If I move my father it will be because I felt there were not enough eyes on him throughout the day and he is not being cleaned well with his incontinence problem.

Based on the experience we have had so far with Brookdale Oakwood, we can say we do wish they had more activities on the 3rd floor...however I do love the kindness they show to those residents.

I would recommend Brookdale Oakwood - my loved one had a good respite stay there. It was a lovely, welcoming facility. The staff were caring, attentive and helpful. And the security is also good.

I thought Brookdale Oakwood was very nice. It was probably the facility that I liked the best out of all the places we looked into. But it was quite a bit more in cost. And I don’t know what Mom’s life span will be. So we had to take that into consideration. But it was a beautiful facility.

I have told people that you get a safe place in a good part of town but I have concerns on the level of personal care she receives. She has been very dirty on several visits (hair and clothes) and the activities are few and far between. There not a exercise area.

I have had a mixed experience with the community. The sales people were really good. The communication with the staff has been very good and they are accessible, and responsive to us. They are willing to speak to us on conference calls about the care for my loved one. The staffing is the biggest concern for us, as there doesn't seem to have a lot of their own staff. The community is using a lot of agency staff and this causes a lack of training, missed care, and a revolving door of team members. The cleanliness of the community and my loved one's room is great. I really like the layout of the community and it is all one floor. Each apartment has there own screened in patio. This allowed us to visit our loved one during the pandemic protocols. They have been good at doing testing on a regular basis, delivering meals to the residents when they needed to, and they have taken all the necessary precautions to avoid COVID.

Overall, it's not bad. The facility is relatively nice, with good food and good people. But the people at the top who are running it are very inflexible and difficult to deal with. And bottom line, it's just way too expensive.

We chose Brookdale Oakwood because it just seemed to be the best fit for the both of them and it is a really pretty part of town. The staff have all been very accommodating and welcoming. I would recommend them.

What stuck out to us about Brookdale Oakwood was the personalities of the caregivers, they were very friendly and helpful and also the price was good. The room sizes here are adequate. I have eaten here and I think the food is good, they do provide choices for the meals and they have options if you do not like any of those. The best part about the community so far has been how they are handling covid, they are being very cautious and keeping the residents safe. I would definitely recommend the community.

It's the place for assisted living. When my mom passed they treated my dad like one of their own residences. They are caring, compassionate, nurturing, and have great communication. I would recommend this community to others.

They were very good to my mom. It is a smaller size community, we really liked that. It is a very caring environment. They also took care of the family when they were there. The room sizes were really good. We were very please with our experience.

I'am satisfied with my mothers move to this community. She is doing well , and in good hands. They have a great staff, and they are helpful when needed. When I visit the community, and her room are nice, and clean. They do provide nice meals, and offer good activities for the residents. Everything is working out well for us in this community, and I would recommend it.

I have no complaints about the tour I had of this community for my loved one. The staff where on time to our appointment and made sure to provide us with lots of great information as well as answer questions we had for them in detail. The property was clean and nicely maintained which I was impressed with. It just did not fit in my mothers budget the way we needed it too.

The thing I am most impressed with at this community would have to be all the amazing amenities. They not only have a great activity list but they also have it so the residents are able to get there nails and hair done on campus. They also have parties for special occasions and holidays which is fun for them. She has had no complaints about the food and enjoys her dinning experience with the other ladies.
