Great place for a family member

My mom has been there 2 months now, she likes her room, has settled in very nicely Staff are very friendly, helpful Lots of activities for the residents and their families also. They celebrate the holidays with songs from outside people coming in to sing and encourage residents to join in. We are happy with the placement we choose for my mom

Brookdale Puyallup South

About the facility

Embrace person-centered care and find your purpose here at Brookdale Puyallup South. This homey, family-oriented memory care community supports seniors and families in Puyallup, Alderton, McMillin, South Hill, Summit, and many other surrounding neighborhoods in Pierce County. Here, dementia-experienced team members take the time to learn about residents' health histories, everyday routines, and preferences.

In an effort to provide well-rounded support, this community offers two memory care programs. The Clare Bridge program — an exclusive brand of dementia care created more than 30 years ago — supports residents in the early stages of dementia by providing six structured activities a day, encouraging them to use their individual skills. Meanwhile, the Solace program provides an additional layer of support and is designed for residents in advanced stages of dementia. This specialized program includes additional hands-on personal care and incorporates activities with music and aromatherapy.

Rest assured, residents’ safety is prioritized just as much as their care. Staff members are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week to be alerted to an emergency situation. The community features large circular paths, way-finding cues, secured entrances and exits, keypad entries, and an emergency alert system. While staff manages your care, meals, and daily...

Only Interested In Your Money

This place seems to really not like Medicare patients. Once private pay had been made for several years and my mother‘s money was completely gone. I applied for Medicare for her. Brookdale Puyallup South immediately retroactively removed cash discounts and added on several thousand dollars to the bill. They then threatened to evict her and not take medicare payments until I had paid the bill in full myself. They said they would turn it over to the attorneys and she would be forced to leave. Luckily, Medicare took care of this and she was able to stay as we had nowhere else for her to go They often would ask for medical care from her doctor directly consulting me… I had medical POA. Including asking for a specific drug that her doctor, deemed dangerous and mounted to “chemical restraint” This [date removed] she contracted the flu. They did not call me until [date removed]. By that time, she also had pneumonia and died two weeks later.

My family would not recommend them to anybody.

It was not a great experience. We left after my mom was there for only a month. I don't even know where to begin. I could go on and on. From not being able to gain access to the building, we literally sat in the foyer for 20 minutes, trying to gain access, to my mom having medicine in her pockets, on the floor, in couch cushions. To her room being a mess every single time that we went there. Food being left out for multiple days. My mom had one shower in a month. We discussed with leadership over there on multiple occasions, she would blame her staff. Nothing would change. My family would not recommend them to anybody.

Caring staff providing great care in a homelike environment

It was expensive but they allowed us to go on DSHS MEDICAID after 1 year most places were 2 years private pay. They were kind and it was a homey family environment. His clothes and belongings would get lost sometimes but always seemed to make their way back eventually. The rooms were clean and comfortable most had extra chairs and it was ok for families to hang pics, shelves etc plus they allowed us to bring my dads recliner,tv,and mini fridge .They even helped him fix his tv a few times. Each room has its own bathroom minus a shower . I got to know the staff well through my dad's illness and they were wonderful.Very apparent that they really cared and it's not just a job for them.

Brookdale South tried to charge me $[removed]for an empty room without My Husband ever setting foot in the building. We had agreed to a monthly price of $[removed]. When I called yesterday the price I was given was $[removed]. The price magically went up $[removed] more than our agreement. They try to scam unsuspecting people in their time of need. I would NEVER recommend Brookdale South to anyone….

Nice Community-Friendly Staff

We picked this community, because it offered the Medicaid spend down, and I received a second opinion about it. It's really expensive, but my loved one is being taken care of, and is in a safe place. They could use more staff, and clean more often. I would recommend to other families.

Never would recommend taking your loved one

We had a horrible experience with Brookdale Puyallup South. They should improve in all areas - they were all about the money and no care at all, absolutely no care. It was all talk to action with the staff and we would not recommend.

The back care staff are wonderful! But communication is very poor. Her hearing aids were lost, inaccurate information was frequently given or conflicting information was given and it was a terrible experience. It is incredible to spend so much money and still walk away hoping that I never end up in a place like that.

Not As Expected

The place shows very well, but the level of care you are paying for is inadequate. The staff communication with the family is my biggest frustration as my phone calls and emails go unanswered. I feel ignored by this. The menu for meals looks great. The community seem to do a good job with activities. I feel that they are short staffed, like a lot of places are, to be able to provide the care they need to be providing for the residents.

Small rooms and was not impressed, and they were more expensive. If a resident needs to be switched over to Medicaid than the resident has to move to a shared room.

Warm and Friendly Environment

Good place but sometimes the communication is lacking. The activity coordinator is good at responding. I believe the follow through is not as good as it could be. They could provide menu calendar with the activities calendar for families to see what their loved ones have the options to eat.

My Review

It's been a difficult year for us who have had family members in a care facility on total lockdown-no visitors. But despite my anger and frustration for my mom I feel the staff at Brookdale South did the best they were able to see that we stayed in contact with family. I applaud them all for being there when I couldn't.

TRAUMATIZED CUSTOMER

In my mother’s 10 day stay they let her fall 3 times, didn’t shower her whatsoever (I had to take it upon myself) served her seafood (she is highly allergic!) and lost 50% of her wardrobe (we labeled everything). They called me the second night she was there to say that my Mom was too busy for them and they couldn’t provide 1:1 care and told me that I needed to spend the night with her or they would send her to the ER. From that point on, we stayed the night with her for the remaining 8 nights. As soon as we pulled Mom out of this facility they billed us [amount removed] for these 10 days still getting bills from them even now that my Mom has passed away. One for [amount removed]!! I tried to call/text financing and negotiate but there was no response. So as I prepare my Moms funeral, I’m also having to deal with the mental, emotional and financial aftermath of Brookdale South. I’ve had better treatment from my veterinarian when my dog passed away than I’ve had for my human mother from this place.

Looking for assisted

The Brookdale Puyallup South is for strictly Alzheimer's care. It is a nice community that I did research on while looking for other care for my mom. Based on other recommendations it is a very nice and clean community. The caregivers do a good job of taking care of their residents.
