Great option for low income adults

Concord Place has been great for my dad. It’s very affordable, which is almost impossible to find. He loves all of the activities and outings offered. The dining room offers a good variety of food each day and residents can order off of a menu in addition to the daily specials. The ala carte add ons, such as laundry service, medication assistance, and bathing are so nice and offer peace of mind to families. The only downside is that the bus service can be hit or miss depending on staffing, but otherwise, it has been a great place! The staff is friendly and the apartments, tho small are clean and private. The cost includes all basic needs- electric, water, weekly housekeeping, and meals.

Elevators are a constant problem

I visit my parent who lives at Concord. For the price (much less than other places)- it’s fine. However- it is NOT uncommon for 1 of 3 elevators (which usually smell terrible) to be broken down and residents can wait in excess of 15 min for an elevator and/or one with room to fit on. Also- we were told the dining room is open ALL day. That is a flat out lie. They do close for an hour in between the meals (understandable- but no need to lie when trying to lease an apartment). Also- the service in the restaurant is lacking. Food is very good - service not so much. That said- they have lots of activities and a lot of people to socialize with.

Apt kind of small but manageable. Enjoy smoking room and dining times and variety. Housekeeping could be a little better but realize their job is large and hard.

I found my new home at Concord Place.

There is so much stuff to do here. Everyone working here is very courteous and helpful. The other residents are friendly too. The 3 meals a day are great! They are balanced meals and they change every day

Everyone there is so nice and I enjoy going there to see my daddy. The apartment size is perfect for him. The only thing he doesn't like is there are no lights except the bathroom.

We visited my brother after a few weeks at Concord Place. We really thought the facility was well planned and maintained. Food was very good with featured entrees and a regular option menu.

Disappointed

I sent this to my sister since she's the one living there. She said 3 for everything right now. She had bed bugs and had bites all over her arms. They're gone now though. Which is understandable in a place with so many residents. She is mad that she had to skip Mother's Day because she didn't want to spread them to us. She said some employees are exceptional but the caretakers she has seen are not. She said caretakers often leave people in the common areas in their wheelchairs for long periods of time. Some of the people have sores from sitting so long every day.

Great onsite medical

My dads overall experience is good- he likes the food/meals being prepared- however the staff in dining room is not always reliable - depends the the section he sits in - sometimes waits 20 min for a server. Also the elevator situation is a disaster. He has had to wait up to 25 min to get on one- they have 3 small elevators - and seems to be regular event that one breaks down. With many using assistive devices- limits number of people. Cleanliness is a 8- only not 10 because of the elevators sometimes smell like urine. Staff is very friendly. Onsite medical has also been fabulous!!! Can’t say enough about them honestly. As for activities- Not impressed w/ staff getting people involved. No one has reached out to him to encourage his participation. [Name Removed] the move in coordinator is probably the nicest person on earth- but appears to be definitely over worked - they could use a 2nd [Name Removed]

Overall would recommend

The staff has been helpful, rooms are small, but cleaned every week. Easy to add on services. Good variety of food. Nice amount of activities. Only negative is that it's a big building with only 2 elevators, so that's can take a while.

Not what I expected

The food and services. Not up to par. Food could be better; some is a 4 down to a 2. Heated pool, not Physical therapy; only if insurance or Medicare is paying. We were under the understanding that was included in the fee we pay monthly. Most of the staff is great

Review for Concord Place

My Sòn, after looking at many senior places found the Concord. I had just moved here from Minneapolis after my husband died and lived with my son's family which was grand for 4 years but I needed to be with òther senìors..I am so happy here. I don't need assisted living yet. I feel free, not isolated, the meals are wonderful and are included, free cleaning service once a week, exercise machines, a medical department, chapel on Sundays, lòts òf activities, friendly kind helpful staff, ìt really çouldnt be better. Free bus service to different stores and for special appointments for seniors. I'm closing now but we have an amazing staff if someone wants a tour. Oh and a beauty shop.

Concord Place

Location is right off the highway. Noisy and ugly. Near O'Hare airport. Former hotel. Concord charges much less than other places I looked, but for the same things. It's also near my family. My one- bedroom apt is about the same as my previous apt. Big enough. Three meals are served rather than two at other places. The food is well prepared but there are not enough fruits and vegetables. And I don't think the meals are low fat or low sodium. Personal dietary needs do not seem to be accommodated.

Wonderful Budget Friendly Retirement Community

Facility is clean! [name removed] who worked with us for admissions was wonderful and walked us through everything. Made himself available to answer all questions that I had. [name removed]who is the moving coordinator did a fantastic job. The residents that we spoke with during our initial tour all seem to enjoy living there. We were given the option to try the meals when we went on our tour and we did stay for lunch. The food portions are small and that's understandable but the food was good

Tips for evaluating your community options

Safety is a primary concern when seniors and their families look for Assisted Living. To ensure that a community meets your needs and expectations, we recommend that seniors and family members:

  • Tour the location: Touring allows you to speak to current residents and staff, and helps you confirm the accuracy of the community description and photos. Use our touring checklist to help guide your visit.

  • Confirm the availability of required services: Before you commit, make sure that the community offers all the services your senior needs, and that those services can be provided within your budget.

  • Know the Illinois regulations for Assisted Living: Each state has its own laws and inspections processes to ensure seniors reside in a safe environment. Depending on your state, you may even be able to look up inspection reports for the community(ies) you’re considering. Learn more about Illinois regulations for Assisted Living.
