The facility was clean and the people friendly. The only downside was one meal per day. Saw several folks bringing in small shopping carts with groceries. As a senior citizen, what to cook for meals has become drudgery. One meal a day would mean a resident will be shopping in grocery stores.

The staff and residents were very nice and friendly. The facility itself was clean and offered a lot of amenities. We were impressed with the facility and all that it offers the residents.

They can renovate the assisted living/memory care all they want but the standard of care does not change. They allow their staff to treat the residents however they want. Especially evening and overnight shift. Do yourself a favor and keep your loved ones close to you. The Alzheimer's patients are vulnerable

Good: - Caregivers know the names of the residents and give good care. - Good amount of activities - Responsive staff. Improvement opportunities: - Food service is slow. My assumption is staffing is not adequate for the number of residents. - As a family member I don't always get notifications on when something is happening or certain care to my mom.

We loved the place but my x had aggressive behaved with his dementia and got kicked out. He passed away in November. They were all respectful and nice. They lost a lot of his things when we moved out, I called them but never received a response.

This review is regarding the assisted living community. My family member continually pays more and consistently receives less. They are hit and miss on services. They offer a lot but do very little. They hide behind the family member said no. They are defensive and punitive when you call them on services not provided.

I think the staff accountability for following the care plan is poor. She stays in the same clothes or pajamas day after day, sometimes I see her in things she put on three days ago and I know she has slept in them. This means they are in the same clothes day after day. They do not like the food there. The staff in the dining hall are kind and friendly. The med techs and aids are touch and go. Some are hostile or say negative things about residents in front of people like me. It's pretty shocking. I have no way of knowing if aides even tried to change my mom's clothes and she refused. There is no feedback, especially when they aren't able to accomplish the care plan. They will say it's because mom refused the offer, but who knows if that even ever happened. No status updates. No reports. It's a black hole. But I will say, they are responsive to emails.

Front desk staff is friendly and welcoming. Apartment is well-designed with space to negotiate with a rollator or wheelchair. Director of Nursing has been helpful in resolving any questions or clinical issues that arise. Food is good, but menu repetitive. Effort is made to provide appropriate programming for residents.

The staff are very courteous and helpful. My mom's apartment and the general layout of the independent living area is really nice. The building itself is conveniently located close to a number of medical and shopping facilities. And the residents are also very friendly and welcoming. it's overall a good community with friendly staff and I would certainly recommend it to anyone looking to enter independent living in the greater Richmond area

I would not recommend Discovery Village at the West End for memory care for a person who is immobile. They have too many residents and not enough staff. My mom was there two weeks and i took her back home. She had items missing after 24 hours and her name was on everything. She had an unwitnessed fall on a Friday night and had to go to the ER. No one called to check on her until the following Monday afternoon.

Friendly and efficient of staff we give that a 10 if I could. They are very good. Meals/dining honestly the food is not very good. Value for cost I guess it's about average. Honestly, the staff here is amazing. Great people I find the activities are just so so. The only thing I truly dislike here is it very Cliquey. VERY !

The staff at Discovery are so attentive to everyone. On day one with moving my dad there into the memory care, everyone we were introduced to remembered our names and remembered things about us. They give my dad such excellent care, I pop in at random times and always find him in great hands and being taken care of. The director of mental health is an amazing woman. She is on top of new programs designed to stimulate the patients. I Highly recommend Discovery Villages in the West End of Richmond.

My parents are currently residents at Discovery Village at the West End. Everything at this facility has been good for them so far. I personally think that they should be in Assisted Living, but they were set on Independent Living and that's where they are. I do wonder how "engaged" the administration staff are with my parents, but being in Independent Living they aren't going to get the help and assistance of the staff that they would in Assisted Living. I've never had the food, but I've read the menus and what I've seen has looked terrific but I have not eaten there. My parents seem to like the food. They are also constantly doing events and daily trips for the residents. The residents and staff seem very polite. I would recommend Discovery Village at the West End to others.

The director and people in the office were amazing. They were very helpful. If I ever had a question, issue, or concern, I could text the director. And any issues would be addressed by the next day. There were two nurses on the station per floor, but they seemed to be stretched thin around the time we left. When we first arrived, the care was amazing. The care staff was very friendly, and they treated my mom like family. The staff in the dining area were always friendly as well. They were so courteous and respectful. However, the food was terrible (high in salt, bland, not much nutritional value). It was expensive for the apartment, but the care was good overall.
