[name removed] gave me a wonderful tour and gave lots of detail about how residents are supported and treated on a daily basis. There are regular activities scheduled so residents do not just sit in their rooms and watch tv. The lunch being served smelled delicious. I was given detailed examples of the Level of Care provided and the costs associated with that care. Residents and staff seemed friendly with each other, greeting each other and me in the hallways. I was invited to see one room and the current residents indicated that they are happy living there. Decor was upscale (with some focus on veterans) and all was clean and tidy. My impression was that it is a great and safe place to live.

Heartsfield at Cary Review

The first few weeks were hard: Getting medicine straight, getting our mom adjusted, and learning how everything works. But things have settled down. Just be prepared to meet with the administrators. They never hesitated to help. We are still frustrated by turn-around time when our mother presses the help button. Only a few of the aides are not friendly, and we believe this is part of their job, so we dinged them à point in this category. Otherwise, it is a friendly place.

This facility is clean and the apartments are very adequate. Our tour was delivered very nicely and we saw each apartment available. Each aspect of the facility was explained and each of our questions were answered to our satisfaction. This facility did not make our short list only because it is further from our home than some of the others.

Would not recommend

Days before my mother passed away hospice aide visited her in the facility and found that her oxygen was in her nose but the tank was not turned on. Her o2 level was at 71 percent. I had to change her urine soaked sheets most of the time, she constantly had poop on her bathroom floor because they only officially cleaned once a week. I swept everyday and used Clorox wipes to clean up her floor. The facility itself seemed clean. most everyone was very nice. The activities director was awesome. Obviously, dirty sheets, finding her sitting in a full diaper and she didn't know it, sending her off-site to her Dr with an empty oxygen tank, ignoring her oxygen levels for 24 hours until another med tech had her sent to the ER. Super understaffed. Aides sleep at night. One aide smelled like pot. Multiple emails sent and ignored initially until an interim director came in while she was out. Food was great for assisted living floor. But awful on the dementia unit. Activities was Excellent. The reason mom would not let us move her. She was afraid that she'd lose even more memory if we did and she enjoyed being busy all day. We paid $[fee removed] a month. She should've had better care. I was there every day for 7 months at random times. I worked 4 minutes from the facility and spent hours everyday picking up the slack. Do Not recommend this place. I know 4 people that had similar experiences. So many families moved their loved ones out during the 5 months my mom was there. We were on a waiting list for 2 other facilities and were finally approved in December. She was so far gone at that point but when she was lucid told ne to keep her there. There is so much more. I should've reported this to the state, but I was exhausted and when she died I could not function to get it done.

Mom's short stay at Hartsfield

The staff is very helpful and friendly. The Mom liked the food. They had activities to encourage residents to go to the activity room to exercise or play bingo. The place is very clean. They were able to take good care of my Mom. When Mom's health suddenly declined they took the steps to send her to the hospital. When she was ready to return they were able to accommodate her now being on Hospice and took good care of her up to her passing yesterday morning.

Overall would recommend

1-I liked what I saw, how I was treated. It is like most places, could use more staff. 2- facility as a whole is well taken care of. A few times the room wasn't as clean as I expected, but I think my Aunt & Uncle forgot it was "assisted living" and not a motel. 3-Staff was always pleasant when I viewed them. One Aunt said they yelled at her for falling, but could just have been loud talking ( or yelling). Hard to know when you aren't there. 4- quality of care:1-10, I would give you a 7. Always called when there was a fall. Could not get answers to diarrhea questions. Made sure they ate, attend some activities, checked on them every few hours. 5- Admin staff was very good. Returned phone calls usually same day you called. If they didn't know the answer, they would locate it for you. 6-food... facility food...fair, edible, not always hot. Takes some getting use to. 7- Activities - Aunt/Uncle didn't get involved until late. Weren't pushed to join. 8- value?? This was my first adventure with assisted living.... everyone does a great job selling the business, everyone expects it to be like home..it never is. It is way cheaper than where they are now, but need more care. Would give them a 4.

Not patient focused; more concerned with their procedures and profit

It is a beaucratic organization with concern about their rules. My husband’s entry to memory care was delayed because of paperwork. And they kept him 11 hours before sending him to the hospital because they could not handle him. I found the staff had no compassion or understanding of those in need

Review for HeartFields at Cary

My Aunt liked the looks of it (lobby, furniture in hallways) I liked it there better because staff turnover was low. The honeymoon phase is over for her & she isn't quite as happy. Calls for assistance are not answered real fast, food isn't quite to her liking. Her plan was to stay in her house till the end. My take on it is that it is the norm with never enough staff.

The nurses don’t care or do their job

They left my mother alone for hours and rarely offered to bring meals or encourage her to attend meals, activities. They never added her to the shower schedule so she rarely bathed. They left her unattended during her shower time (told her to “wait a minute”) and she fell in the shower causing a huge skin tear needing home nurse care. They failed to give her the blood thinner at the prescribed time which meant she didn’t get it at all. she missed 20+ doses over 6 weeks. The food gave her bouts of diarrhea that lasted for days. I moved her after 8 weeks. It was a nightmare

Friendly and welcoming

From the moment my dad got there everyone treated him like he was their own family. He was nervous about starting over with a new place on his own and the staff took him under their wing and made him feel at home. Their nurse [name removed] took over dad’s care and I knew right away he was in the best hands. [name removed] the director was amazing throughout this whole process and answered my numerous questions. Her helping me navigate all the arrangements made an overwhelming task easy. My dad says he loves it there and he doesn’t feel lonely anymore. I would highly recommend this facility for anyone’s family. Thank you!!!!
