I did a walk through of her apartment a week before move in date when I picked up the keys. I requested a toilet paper roller as was missing from holder, carpet to be retacked down from kitchen threshold to hallway as thought could be a tripping hazard, cleaning of the patio and tack screen on upper deck so birds don't continue building nest. I was told they would get them taken care of. We moved her in on Saturday [Date Removed] & my request were not taken care of. Also no power in her Living room. It was frustrating & did not give us a good feeling on how things will go. They can promise & tell you what you want to hear but you move in and it's not so. No help to fix on weekend, so Mom did not stay until Monday night. She has now been living there 6 weeks and still adapting but overall I feel Independence Village is a good fit. My Mom says the food is so so but I expected this as it's different from her own cooking but she hasn't really cooked besides bacon & eggs so she must be somewhat content. Also my Mom received a [Amount Removed] bill that I had to talk to them about as had prior balance and being she just moved in, there should not of been a prior balance. They took it off and we only paid[Amount Removed} which was an application fee we were not aware we had to pay and told them they should point this out in future to others. We would of paid with her community fee & 1st months rent if we were aware. This incident made me leery to set up Auto pay for her rent. I want to review monthly bills first.\nI do appreciate a place for Mom helping us find a right fit instead of putting her into assisted living at this times. I miss being able to step or sit out side quickly. However, the additional cost is prohibitive on my budget. I am never bored; there is a wide variety of activities in which I can, and do participate. Another plus is that half of my family lives close by. Therefore, we can easily get together for holiday and special occasion dinners and outings.
