My husband is never bored, neglected, or hungry.

Our experience has been excellent. This is also an independent and assisted living residence. So the memory care residents often participate (with close supervision) with the general population for happy hour one or two times per week, monthly birthday celebrations, travelogues, music, and occasional bingo with school children who visit. Staff are helpful, caring, and hard working. They are short staffed in the memory unit at times. They have 2 (or 3?) people who manage activities for the whole community; the new person seems to be primarily for the memory care unit. She even is present every other weekend and scheduled evenings. They have games, manicures, art activities as well as outside time five to seven days per week. They have the opportunity to be busy nearly constantly. They are encouraged but not forced to participate. Nearly all day, when there is no activity, most of the residents sit together in a small but open concept community room to watch tv; they have gotten to know each other and most interact as a family. Showers are twice per week, I think. I generally have to shave my husband and comb his hair when I arrive (three days per week). But I believe they do their best with the number of people for whom they care. They show love. The whole facility is kept very clean. The only problem I have observed might be the private memory care restrooms. My husband's is as it was at home--disorganized counter and spit on the faucet. But this would be also from the fact that memory care at Meadowview of Johnston leans closer to assisted living than nursing home; the residents are closely monitored (I've seen the camera in his room) but encouraged to be as independent as they can be at their stages. I think housekeeping is every or every other week. A minor negative is breakfast and lunch are too close together. Many finish eating after 9am but then are expected to eat lunch at 11:45am. Each meal is relatively large; my husband has gained 30# since moving in a year ago. The food is very good. (I believe residents are required to be served but are not forced to eat. State requirement??) The only major negative, about which I have addressed as far up as the owners, is the memory care courtyard; it has no permanent shade. They have an umbrella, but it cannot be used with even the slightest breeze. My husband craves being outside to just sit, year 'round; it helps keep him calm. But they require staff be with him outside at all times, but with the frequent short staffing they generally get outside only when the activity team can (which they do when the weather is nice). The owners beautified the courtyard this spring, but it is not functional for dependent people. I think the staffing issue might partially be that the MC unit has room for twenty, I believe, people. This week I believe they are up to 15 (had ten when [name removed] moved in; have had some deaths and a couple moves out within the last year). When I was there this Tuesday, there seemed to be more and new staff. I would love to live in this facility. I've met many of the general population and found them to be generally positive and accepting of the memory care residents (many previously lived as assisted living). I'd recommend this residence.

Review for Meadowview of Johnston

We love Meadowview. Only a few incidents with my mom's account. They give you a $250 a month credit if you use their pharmacy. Which we do. They just were not quick to add the $250 credit to her account. It took many phone calls, emails and finally everything is running smoothly. Staff seems to change frequently (but who would want that job!) There are a few of the nurses that we LOVE. Lots of activities!! Lots of Happy Hours!! The management is a bit slow when there is a problem but they eventually make things right. It just might take a few emails. Our biggest struggle was with my mom is supposed to get a $250 a month credit for using their pharmacy and they were not giving her the credit. They owed us $1000 by the time we got it turned around. Other than that, we like it we did find out. We did find out they will never take Medicaid. Strictly cash pay. Everything is very clean and well taken care of. My mom complains about the food a lot, she said sometimes it's excellent and other times it's inedible.

Best moderately price memory care

It is EXCELLENT!! I can't say enough good things! Sydney, the activities director, has been there three years and does a fantastic job with memory care actives as well as including them when possible with the general assisted/independent living residents. Every so often a grade school nearby has a class come to play bingo with the general population; memory care is frequently included. They have church services for the memory care residents led by staff which includes a lesson and music. Staff are generally very kind and helpful. Management, for me, have been transparent, friendly, and easy to work with.

Found a nice place for Dad

The staff is very nice. The apartment size dad has is good. Not too big not too small. The food and dining needs some improvement. Portion sizes are small. The food choices- some are too fancy for these older folks. French fries are always burnt. The facility is clean. Very nice looking. Nice location too. It's not huge. So dad is not overwhelmed. Overall it's been good.

Meadowview of Johnston cares for their memory patients

Staff easy to work with. Staff expresses consideration, respect, caring for patients and family. Activities director directly involved with patients with games several times per week. She also takes them to join independent/assisted living residents for "happy hour" & games. Occasionally has grade school children in to play bingo. Ample and good food. Supervision adequate for memory care. Pro & con: do not force (they gently guide) memory care patients to participate, accept cares, etc

Moved my parents to independent living but within the week my mom needed to be in memory care. The staff was very supportive in the move and helping us transition. My dad continues to stay in Indep living while my mom is in memory care. The staff that helps my mom have been wonderful. I’m happy to know she is safe and happy. My dad is also very happy that they made the move there even though change was hard. Would highly recommend seeing Meadowview of Johnston.

At Meadowview Johnston You're Home

Meadowview Johnston is obviously a beautiful facility. Of far greater importance however is the atmosphere within. From the moment one enters, one senses of feeling of warmth and friendliness, an atmosphere created by an incredible staff starting with the director, [name removed], and continuing throughout the rest. This does not feel like an institution. Instead, It Feels Like Home, a feeling voiced by so many of the residents who live there. I doubt one can find a better place to call home

Great Choice for My Mother

My mother has lived at Meadowview of Johnston for 6 months. This facility has been a great choice for her. The facility is on the smaller side, so she doesn't feel so overwhelmed. I like knowing that even though she's in independent living, staff are watching out for her and there are systems in place to keep her safe. Mom's apartment is the right size for her. Her one-bedroom unit with a generous closet and laundry space makes her feel like she can have enough of the items from her larger house with her. It's taken awhile, but Mom is starting to enjoy the activities. There is something to do every morning and afternoon with enough variety that she can find something that appeals to her even though she's introverted. A big selling point for both my mother and me is that she will be able to stay in place when she needs to upgrade to assisted living services. The price is very reasonable for the services provided. An assisted living facility with an independent level is rare.

Very friendly, clean and welcoming!

Meadowview is a very nice place. All the people there went out of there way to welcome my parents and get to know them. There are lots of fun activities for residents and their families throughout the month. An incredibly caring place and they always knew me too, as their daughter who would come visit. They would give me updates or just chat.

I would recommend this to anyone that ask me.

The staff has been helpful for me when I have requested some changes to areas that I use. Housekeeping was just here to vacuum my apartment. We have been able to meet many of the residence here and they have been cordial to me and my wife. I'm not surprised that some are not happy with some meals, but that seems normal for about any group that I have been around. We have enjoyed some of the concerts by individual artists.
