The Laurel at Vernon Hills
Thank goodness we happened upon the Laurel at Vernon Hills Memory Care. They were wonderful for her and for us throughout the rest of her life. The Laurel was wonderful and I wish it had been on our short list when we were first looking for a place for my mother-in-law. If they are not on your radar, they absolutely should be.

We are considering a transfer from another community. I hope what I’m being told and what I’m seeing are hopeful for a good stay. Ratios of help to resident are lower, one concern is the shared bathroom. I’ll write again to let you know how our transition went with management and care.

Sadly, the new director has not trained the new staff and our family member fell unattended, amongst a host of other problems. The staff is untrained, despite them advertising otherwise, the residents are soiled and the bathrooms are dirty and the staff ignores the residents and oftentimes not a single worker is monitoring them. So many sad changes since the new director. [name removed] is terribly missed and we families understand why they no longer receive good reviews. All the families hope the owners find a new site as the current one clearly isn’t a good fit.

The staff is very attentive, friendly and patient. They have multiple activities each day for participating and there are some tailored to the different level of ability. They bring in outside guest for things like music therapy and animal support. They get 3 well prepared meals and multiple snack throughout the day. The staff goes over and beyond to know each resident and their family. The cost for care is reasonable and in line with the care they provide. They also have programs for care that are reasonable and just help make life easier for the resident and family members. They have an in house support group that meets for caregivers as well. Overall I would recommend this lovely group.

As far as my evaluation of The Laurel, she received excellent care and I would recommend their memory care facility. The staff members are well trained and they care deeply for their patients. They went above and beyond to care for [name removed]. Near the end, the staff worked in tandem with hospice care to keep [name removed] comfortable and reassure my family during a very difficult time.

I love everything about The Laurel at Vernon Hills IL. The staff is the best. My mother had wonderful care there. I loved the first phone call with Carol. She was so efficient, caring, down to earth and accommodating. When I first met with her, my heart melted when she told me my mom would be loved there. So true. I loved that whenever I visited her, she would say how lucky she was to live there because everyone was so nice. And we have [name removed] , Executive Director, to thank for hiring only the best people. I am grateful for all of the caregivers and everything that the staff did for her up until her final moments.

My husband is currently a resident at The Laurel at Vernon Hills and this facility is WONDERFUL! The staff is very caring and competent. They are kind and attentive to resident's needs. The facility is always clean and smells clean. The meals are nutritious. The activities are engaging and always seem to engage the residents. This is a great place for your loved ones to be safe and well cared for. It is good to realize that I made the right choice for my husband of 53 years!

The staff at Springs are unbelievable, non-stop always doing what needs to be done and going the extra mile 365 a year. I have been to quite a few assisted living places and as far as I'm concerned, NO ONE DOES IT BETTER THEN, THE SPRINGS OF VERNON HILLS. I appreciate all the hard work that everyone does there.

I checked around and went and visited many facilities. Some were definitely more upscale that we couldn't afford but once I walked into this place I felt in my bones it was the right place for him. It's not the right place for her but she wants to be with him, so be it. But for my dad, this is close to my home and the perfect place. He actually improved on his assessment since he has been there from a three to a two. Very, very happy, and [name removed] is the very best. Can't say enough about her. Everyone I have come in contact with and have only spoken to is wonderful and caring. I know [name removed] the best because I had to deal with her directly for a while. My family couldn't be happier that he is safe and thriving.

The Springs of Vernon Hills gets 10 stars, they are wonderful. The staff members there are marvelous - they know everybody, they call the residents by their first name and just take care of everyone they are so friendly. Everything about The Springs has been absolutely wonderful. They have plenty of activities going on - they have a beautiful outdoor courtyard the residents can wander in and out from when the weather is nice. It is just a great place and there is no comparison.

The staff is wonderful, they know everyone by name and they are very caring. They're there, so you don't have to go looking for them when visiting. I'm very pleased, exceptionally please with The Springs!

Very high caregiver changeover. Phone calls often unanswered because there isn’t enough staff. Staff is friendly. Director doesn’t follow through on concerns. Activity sheet looks busy and full, but if you look closely you’ll hardly ever see much activity other than sitting in tv room. General hygiene has to be requested (shaving, teeth brushing) often or it gets skipped unless you speak up often. Clothes go missing constantly. PT/OT services are a joke. Room is often in need of vacuuming and dusting. If you’re looking for an expensive place with friendly caregivers but basic care of feeding and not much activity other than television, this is the place. Finally moved our loved one out to a facility where the director really runs the place and knows what’s going on day and night and where activities aren’t just on a calendar to look good.

My sister was transferred to the Springs of Vernon Hills in [date removed], and from the very beginning , the staff, nurses, and administrators all greeted her with open arms, and with an extremely caring attitude. From the initial consultation, where we were educated and explained all of the protocols, to the day to day service and attention, my sister was treated with the utmost respect and compassion. Everyone we encountered, including the maintenance was approachable and happy to assist in any of our needs . On top of that, the food and amenities were outstanding ! I would highly recommend this facility !

My wife stayed here for 9 months. During that time, I marveled at the quality of care that she received. First, the facility itself: It is clean, well-lit, wide hallways, comfortable rooms, well-maintained, and the food is good. There are places in the building where we could go for privacy, play music on their many DVD players, and sometimes merely watch the passing parade of people and vehicles. The enclosed garden was a welcome oasis of calm in the warm months. Most important: the staff. They were caring, well-versed in handling the difficulties of those with memory issues, informative, welcoming, and going above and beyond. It was quite a relief knowing that she was in good hands. I would recommend Springs of Vernon Hills for a loved one of yours that is dealing with dementia.

After visiting many facilities in the area, the Springs was by far our best option for a safe, loving, and engaging facility for our mom. The Springs is designed with memory care residents in mind and is very comfortable and home like. The wonderful staff is caring, friendly, and skilled. Management takes the necessary time and effort to understand each resident's unique needs, preferences, and personality. Planned activities are varied, appropriate , fun and available for residents who choose to participate. I have been very impressed with the safety measures the Springs has put into place during the Covid outbreak. Through it all I know they are doing everything they can to keep the residents safe and healthy.

The Springs of Vernon Hills is a wonderful, welcoming place. As a Caregiver to my brother, [name removed], when he suddenly needed the care of a Memory Care facility, I needed to find a kind, COVID free place. When [name removed] called me, I knew I had found that in The Springs. [name removed] was going to love [name removed] like her own brother. I was not going to be able to go in, because of COVID, so I had to trust. [names removed] and the full staff at the Springs, have proven to be deserving of my Trust. Before [name removed] arrived, [name removed] asked how they could comfort [name removed]. I told her humor, kindness, and dance with him. [name removed] has a great sense of humor, and loves to dance. My husband [name removed] brought [name removed]to the door, and then had to back away. [name removed] came out the door dancing, and [name removed] laughed and walked up to her. They danced their way in. [name removed] and The Springs of Vernon Hills are very sincere in providing loving care at The Springs. I am thankful to them every day.
