Less than Ideal

The apartment was very tight; appx 400 sqft. Care for those in assisted living is weak at best. They are constantly either understaffed or short-staffed. My dad pressed is emergency call medallion one time and the initial response time was over 20 mins. 15 mins after that, a more experienced care giver responded who then called an ambulance. Activities; just a few per day that were often repeated daily and poorly attended. Off-site activities never occurred because in the 75 days my parents were at Woodmark, 3 van drivers quit. Room cleanliness/maintenance was severely lacking, again poor staffing. The entire cleaning crew walked out one day. Consequently, the apartment was not cleaned weekly. Laundry was good, until my parents laundry was lost (for real!). It was never recovered and getting proper reimbursement was a battle. Overall, the care providers was friendly as were cleaning staff. Administration; the GM, Business Mgr and Nursing Care were an absolute train wreck! Food ranged between just ok and pretty lousy. One of the biggest problems in the dining room was a staff of 2. Consequently, it was routine to wait 30-45 mins to put your order in and get served. I would not recommend this facility to anyone under any circumstance.

Room for improvements

Well... Their move in packet is incomplete, doesn't explain use of emergency buttons or have after hours info, including door code. They rarely answer the main phone, you get a message to another vm or enter first 3 initials for directory which hasn't been updated in an unknown time. Our LO needed help the second Friday and no one answered life alert call button, my husband and EMT's arrived before an aid arrived. I left multiple vm's and sent emails to every number or email I could find online. I received one call back on Tuesday from RSD about a forwarded email regarding reevaluation on FIL, nothing else til Thursday when I asked to went in person to speak to someone in authority. I eventually met with RSD and ED to address multiple failures inWoodmark system. Some have been rectified some haven't, we moved LO's in March 29. We were told the failure to respond on Friday night was due to their life alerts not being activated? Seems like that should have been done prior to assigning them to my LO's. We also weren't aware that pressing the button in the bathroom required only one press, we continued pressing til someone arrived, which activated/deactivated call multiple times. One would think that even then someone would have inquired as to did they need assistance. They are chronically understaffed. We have experienced delay or no meal delivery, no show housecleaning, failure to show for vitals checks, complaints from aids about repeat calls, etc. All of these items have been addressed in emails to WM. The ED left but new ED started last week, no real announcements just a flyer in elevator. Miscommunication seems to be the norm, ie: one person saying yes then another saying no. We had reevaluations on both LO on [Date Removed], we are still waiting for WM to start administering meds daily. I know they had to wait for Dr. signed med lists but this seems excessive. I expect I will have another in person meeting with new ED and RSD soon. LO's are not happy but they complain about everything anyway. They only want to live with their son and me which is not healthy for me and they need skilled nursing. Hindsight...we would not have moved them to WM but sales did their job. WM fits LO budget and location for us. If sales and brochures were true it would be great

Our family's experience

The biggest complaint is staffing, which i'm sure is standard throughout the industry. The cleanliness of [Name Removed] room is questionable. Sometimes, because there's always a lot of laundry and I realize she has specific laundry days. But when your staff is cleaning up one of her messes, then the laundry piles high. This past week, you guys were out of laundry detergent, and anybody could have brought some in while you guys were waiting for your order to come in.So therefore, laundry was not done once last week as a result. Her trash can has been missing so therefore trash is stacked up in an area and her diapers are not removed and just sit in her room so her room smells. Her clothes appear to be missing. And I don't think you guys wash clothes, compare a room and just throw them in together. I'm not sure, but she has been missing some of her clothes and her towels that we brought INR gone. So others have been used because hers are missing. And still missing. Her digital clock was picked up most likely by another resident. And possibly stuffed in a drawer because they could not get it to worked. And we have been asking about it every week. And I don't understand why it cannot be found. The digital clock displays in large letters. Today's date in the day of the week and the time it helps keep [Name Removed] grounded. These are really our concerns. The staff is fabulous. I am very helpful and has an interest which is great. Unfortunately, the concerns that have been outlined in this message are typical at most memory care facilities. Upper management hopefully will come up with a new procedure or solution to help mitigate these issues in the future. We have brought in a trash can and put her room number on it along with some other items and are hopeful that will help. Overall [Name Removed] is being well cared for which is the goal. She does have frequent visitors[Name removed] and I are collectively there on four different days, and we noticed the cleanliness of her room. Overall. we have seen people mopping her room and changing her. Sheets, which I know is part of keeping it clean. But the trash piles up in her room and we're really hopeful the new trash can with her room number will help mitigate that going forward. And I think staffing is the biggest concern, and if you guys could keep staff and actually working their shifts, I think all of this actually would work out. I know there is high turnover. And unfortunately, I don't think caregivers are paid enough for what they have to put up with. Because I know it's a very tough job. And we have a lot of respect for the caregivers. Your staff overall are fabulous. I just don't think you guys are able to keep enough of them working when they're supposed to. Which would probably mitigate all of the problems, and unfortunately, is a tough thing to solve.

I wrote a review the same day I took the tour but I did not put in two other points that are very important to me. 1. I really appreciated the wonderfully well lit hallways. I have some problems with my sight and I can see so very clearly there. 2. The variety of activities available. I love being around people and the whole atmosphere of the place is very pleasing to me.

Review for The Woodmark at Sun City

A few things at Woodmark initially stood out to me as being very attractive & inviting. However, now that my parents have lived at Woodmark for 6 weeks, this property can best be described as putting lipstick on a pig. You can make it look good, but in the end, it's still a pig. ( aka essentially basic window dressing.) After 6 weeks, my parents are making plans to move out of Woodmark. The continual staff turnover that has run the range from the transportation / van driver to care providers to housekeeping to dining room servers has negatively impacted my parents' personal care from an "assisted living standpoint", and their overall quality of life. After I spoke with Woodmark's Executive Director, her feedback made it apparent that Woodmark's quality standards are low and as a result, they have no problem achieving those low standards. I would not recommend this property to anyone unless their personal standards for care, food and enjoyment are low.

worst assisted living location in Sun City- AVOID

Our experience was only good on move-in day. We were grated and we were provided some help to get moved in. And things went downhill from there. Our mom was not provided dinner or medication the first night she was there. They forgot she had moved in and the techs were not informed (this was a wheelchair resident who was being charged fully for all assisted services, including escort to meals and medication dispensing. Her call button did not work well during her stay, as she was left too often for hours without bathroom and shower help. The techs spoke minimal English and could not make themselves hard or understood. We submitted our 30 day notice almost immediately and were forced to stay 5 weeks in this horrible facility... or lose the $[removed] already spent. The entry has a grand staircase to the upper floors and was quite stunning. That's how they grab you. The rooms are stark and filthy. No housekeeping attempt was made any day mom was on residence. Cleaning was left for the family to manage. The entry has a grand staircase to the upper floors and was quite stunning. That's how they grab you. The rooms are stark and filthy. No housekeeping attempt was made any day mom was on residence. Cleaning was left for the family to manage. Care- I don't want to say non-existent, but I will. There was a severe lack of quality care, also the primary reason for our departure. Admin staff - Cheerful prior to move- in, and hard to find after that. Food - Bland, gross, tasteless, as anticipated, but satisfying if it was eaten at all. Value for money - Abhorrent! And when the new director came in board, she submitted a bill for mom to pay that extended 4 weeks beyond her stay. After we tried to correct them several times and then when we refused to pay, that erroneous bill was sent to collections.
