Nice facility with new management and lots of potential

My father-in-law started living at Symphony Linden in March 2024 and we are thankful we found this facility for him. He has been there a few months now and is settled in and enjoying it. He especially likes physical therapy and the field trips. He is a particular eater and we are thankful they have an à la cart menu that allows him options. Symphony Linden has been going through a management shift since my father in law moved in so we had a slow start, but overall we are happy with his care, and he is happy there which is most important. My main point of criticism would be that I think they could use some electronic systems that would make it easier for family to keep up-to-date with medical information and the social calendar. I currently feel a bit disconnected and the only way to get information is to call and directly ask for it.

When I toured Cartel Inns of Linden, it was very clean and the facility seemed to be in good shape. However, there were not many openings for my loved one at this facility.

The Caretel inns of Brighton would have been very convenient for us if they had an opening. The place was very nice and the people were very friendly. We ended up going with the Caretel in Linden because we liked the vibe from the Caretel's.

So far so good at Care-Tel

These are my first impressions of Care-Tel after two months of service for my mother. While she was initially apprehensive, my mom is very appreciative of the care she is getting. She likes the food, and someone regularly checks up on her. Care-Tel is quiet and orderly. The caregivers seem well-trained, friendly, and generally attentive. Of course, I would appreciate them to be even more attentive, as my mom struggles with her dementia and is quite withdrawn. The medical staff is available and knowledgeable. Management seems professional and courteous. This is a large facility, but each of several sections are somewhat independent. It is spacious and clean, and the caregivers keep their daily responsibilities on a good schedule, as far as I can tell. Meals are prompt. My mom is not yet brave enough to jump into the activities, but they, too, seem to be well-coordinated and prompt. Guests seem to get the attention they need, but in our case, I would like them to be more assertive in their encouragement. I appreciate the effort put forth by this staff. With many variations of guests to support, I have yet to hear even a hint of exasperation from any employee. For my mom here at Care-Tel, so far so good.

We were at this community for a short time for care. It was not a good time when we were here . The staff were nice, but sometimes they were late on getting her medication .The meals need some improvement. We would suggest that other families tour this community for the care that is available for a loved one.

They offer a lot of activities such as cocktail hour and demonstrations!!!

Mom is improving physically at Caretel. We did have a minor issue with some of her medication doses, however they have worked to correct his issue. I have not seen any registered nurses in the assisted living wing. The community is nice but I think the housekeeping could be a little better. They do not have a lot of food options but the food is good. I am not sure I would recommend this community. I would say to do your homework when looking into this community.

Short staff always. Laundry awful and the food is awful.

My mom closet is full of clothes that are not hers. We label all her clothes so that's not not working. I had lunch with her and the food was awful and cold. I see staff sitting around on phones not helping

Ask questions

Many aspects of the Ivy are good. Some of the staff is very caring, and others not. The apartments are nice and allow seniors to have a semblance of independence. For my mother, it was great as she could walk to the nearby library, Walgreens, etc. However, due to poor supervision. my mother was stranded in her bathtub for over 24 hours, and it could've been longer if I had not stopped by after work that day. Three separate aids did not show concern when coming to give her medication and she did not answer the door, nor show up for meals for an entire day. [Removed]. It is a shame, as some members of staff are wonderful.

Do not recommend

Caretel in Brighton has a great rehab program. When we moved her in it was horrible. Over [Amount removed]month small room. Dialysis 3x a week with Letts picking up and stopping off. They would not let them go to front door, she had to use service door by kitchen. She was in a wheelchair. Hard to open door, it was winter so could not wait outside. Driver came a couple times, she could hear at door but no one helped so they left. Had to leave work and drive half hour to take her and mess up dialysis appt. MIL had been taking her own meds so she knew. They would mess up meds. She would try to tell them, I would call in and talk to mgt. but still problems. She, I and dialysis said she could not have BP meds on days of dialysis because dialysis lowers it also. 2x Joanne didn't catch the wrong pills and took them. Dialysis called me to rush her to hospital because it was so low. Several times she came back from dialysis to people in her room helping themselves to her snacks. Several pcs of jewelry stollen. Things given to her from her mother that she wore every day almost. I spoke with all mgt there and was told they would look into it. 6 weeks after there she fell in her room at 5 am. They said they would call me but they never did. I came as usual at 10:0am and she begged to go to hospital. 4 broken ribs. In hospital 2 weeks and told at first she would never leave. That was when we moved her.

Horrible Place - not a person, just a bed

My dad was admitted to Symphony Tri-Cities in[date removed], after a hospital stay. We arrived later afternoon and were basically shown his rehab room and not offered any other assistance. We went out numerous times to ask for water, about dinner, what the care plan was, etc. They were busy talking, which was much more important than a patient. One of use went out to get my Dad food and something to drink. When we left that night, we asked that they please check in on him. At 2:00 a.m. my Mom received a phone call that my Dad had fallen out of bed and his right elbow was badly cut and he was in pain. We got there as soon as possible and asked about getting an X-ray and were told they only had a portable machine that would not be available until Monday. On Monday, it was confirmed that his hip was broken and he was taken to the hospital for surgery. My Dad passed away at the end of May. Symphony Tri-Cities is a terrible place!

my family's experience. I would recommend the facility but it definitely needs improvement with the administration

overall experience is a 1, administration was a nightmare trying to get her situated. I've had no complaints about how clean they keep the facility. Everyone is so nice to my Mom and really have been great about helping her to get to all the fun things going on. They are taking very good care of my Mom, and some of the people update me through texts. Just never nurses or doctors. administration staff was a 1. They were almost impossible to work with. I had to hunt down the different staff people I needed to talk to or have a letter from. They absolutely would not put me in touch with anyone. The point person who was supposed to be doing all this did absolutely nothing for me and was extremely unfriendly and unhelpful. My Mom was constantly complaining about the food at first but now she says it's gotten better. My Mom is very much enjoying a lot of the activities and the staff usually are very good about making sure she gets to them. I looked at several other places. They all have the same starting rate as Symphony. The difference is everything is included at Symphony. The other facilities up charge to other levels for everything. Examples are- helping with shower, helping with medication, helping to get them to activities. It would probably add up to more than double the cost.

Review for Symphony Linden

My father in law passed away a week after getting there. In that short time I was not impressed with his care. First they put him in the wrong room. The nurse that was there was wonderful. They moved him to his room and they misplaced his medication. I'm not sure if they gave him his correct medication. He went into a diabetic coma within 6 days. He got there on a Monday and had passed by the following Monday. So I'm really that happy with that place.

Not impressed

Minimal care is provided. No personal care other than changing a soiled depends. He is lucky to get his meals any given day. It is not unusual for him to miss one or two meals. The food is not very good and arrives cold. They get him up to a chair in the morning, give him his meds and at night get him back to bed. When he arrived about 8 weeks ago he could walk with a walker and had no skin breakdown. Now he has skin breakdown and they use a lift to get him up. The staff is nice but are overwhelmed.

Horrible Nightmare

Not even worth one star. My in-laws were placed here for long term care. It has been nothing but issues. Both of them require assistance with every day tasks including getting to the bathroom. My father in law requires a feeder at meals. There is rarely anyone available to feed him, letting his food go colder than it arrived and him to go hungry. My mother in law is a fall risk. She has fallen multiple times trying to get to the bathroom or assist my FIL with food/drinks due to lack of answer from call lights. Since there is no one to answer the main phone line after 8, takes forever to get ahold of a nurse, now my MIL has had an accident because they didn’t answer the call light. It’s now 8:30 at night and my FIL is just now getting food in him. Small part of a long list of issues. We are calling corporate for the second time in 2 weeks. We should not have to call up there every time they need something to get someone to go in there. Run far away from this place. What a joke!
