Everyone there was really nice. The biggest issue was that the elevator was out. This was very disappointing as the unit we were scheduled to tour is on an upper floor. After checking several reviews, it became apparent that this wasn’t the first time the elevator had been out. It is very concerning that this particular facility only has one elevator.

The Virginian is AMAZING!
Mom is in a very spacious studio that has a separate alcove for her bedroom. It has worked out very well for her. The staff and residents are all very friendly. She was very nervous and absolutely positive she would not like it at all. She did not go down to meals the first day but they took her dinner and talked with her and got her all set up to come to breakfast the next day. She really loves it there and is very happy. She looks forward to meal times and hangs out with her new friends a lot. We are ssssssoooo grateful for the Virginian and their staff for helping to make this transition manageable for us all.

great community for seniors
There is only one elevator and it is not very big so sometimes you have to wait. Over all everything is quite nice for the price and care. Internet and Cell connection is problematic at times. Food is good and there are plenty of activities. A great sense of community here with the residents.

We began the journey to find a place for my mom a few months ago. At that time she was not ready to look at places. So, we kept the contacts we had generated for future use. Things changed and a move was no longer optional. I live several states away from my mom. The staff at the Virginian did a virtual tour with me. The next day they went and picked my mom up for her to have a tour. My son was able to meet her there. She ate lunch, met some people and picked a place to live! The staff was wonderful and she will move in soon.

Friendly and Feels Like Home
The management team and sales lead are amazing. Activities, holiday celebrations, and opportunities for input/engagement with the facility are also widely available. My Mom is delighted with her room, with the friendships she's made, and her time there. Food is good it could be better.

Parents at Virginian
The Virginian has lovely spacious apartments with a variety of layout choices. My parents enjoyed the one bedroom with kitchenette. The dining room is spacious and nicely decorated. You feel like you are eating out in a classy restaurant. The staff serve you your meals and you have several choices to choose before dinner time. The grounds are decorated with beautiful flowers and grass and well maintained. The have several activities going on each day. My mom particularly enjoyed the musical guests. They have a bus to take you shopping and to appointments. The staff knows everyone by name and they check on you when you don’t come down for dinner. They will even deliver your dinner. My parents loved their time their and were sad to have to move to assisted living away from their Virginian Family.

The care has been OK for my father. There is a lot of staff turnover, which is a little alerting but overall, I think the quality has stayed the same. We picked them because of the cost and location.

A Wonderful, Caring Home for Dad!
Although they've had a lot of turnover and ups and downs, since my father first arrived there, now, they have a wonderfully caring staff. As for the activities, they went through a period when they were not offering a whole lot and what they did offer, was geared towards very active seniors. But under the new management, the activities have gotten better and for a broader, physical abilities level.

All is not well.
At first things were good. Most staff were friendly and the management tied hard and I think still do. When the chef left things changed. The food is cold, the staff unhappy and the quality of meals are inconsistent. One morning there was no coff and they said they were out. If my mother is late even 5 min for a meal she is chastised and once was told she couldn’t eat. There is no reasonable way for her to get s meal if she is sick. Residents have to come fill out a request and come back for food. If she has back pain she has to get dressed to go out and again wait and go out again. It is confusing even who to ask. Some meal staff are impatient and clearly unhappy which gets shared with the residents. If someone would just bring the meal it would help. At this time she has lost 8 lbs and weighs 108. She is already frail and thin and we have to make sure she has food she can eat. She likes her apartment but the chaos and dissatisfaction of the staff is problematic.

Moving Father in Law into Independent Living
We sadly lost Mom-n-Law at New Year and had to move father into a new place quickly. I had been working with a Place for Mom for a few weeks and up came a referral for Holiday Virginian. They had a great offer and the sales staff was excellent. After a great visit father-in-law was very excited to move!

A Place for Mom has scored Holiday Virginian 9.3 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.   We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.   Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
