Review for San Marino Retirement Community

The memory care unit, staff has overturned many times since my mom has been there, which has been a year. It was odd to me that residents got to choose their meals for the day. It's a memory care unit and people have a hard time with memory and taking care of themselves. When I was there last, they were serving fish with rice and a vegetable or grilled cheese sandwich with the tomato slice. Most of the residents had the grilled cheese and a tomato slice and most of them didn't eat it. It seemed like a very dismal dinner, especially for those that have dentures or missing teeth. Along with that, it was such an inexpensive dinner when the residents are paying to be there. My mom's room isn't the cleanest (floor especially) and it seems a burden to staff clean up after her over and over again.

My Dads experience

San Marino is pretty great! For entire place and a 3 for my fathers apartment, they are supposed to clean it every Friday...doesn't always happen. My father isn't sure if they give you seconds. He only plays Bingo. Yes I would recommend this community to other families, it's a beautiful place to live.

A friend, who has been looking at independent living facilities, and I, toured San Marino twice. Both tours were enjoyable. My friend stated that San Marino has a very "home like" feel, and will soon be moving into their facility.

San Marino Retirement Community

The staff are very kind. All of them make a point to say hi when you see them in the hall and they all know my dad by name. I can tell that this makes him feel as though he belongs and is special. There seems to always be a variety of activities going on and the staff does a good job getting residents involved. My dad has been enjoying several of the activities and I love that he is getting involved. The food is good but what my dad likes the most is the that there is dessert after lunch and dinner and there are always fresh baked cookies in the afternoon. I have been disappointed in the cleanliness of the rooms. The bathroom is rarely cleaned thoroughly and the floors are filthy even after being cleaned. It looks as though the same mop is being used in each room without cleaning or changing out the mop head. I have had to make a point to go weekly to clean even though this is a service that we are paying for.

Would highly recommend

We have been very pleased with San Marino. The staff is very friendly, compassionate, and helpful. My in-laws room is very spacious and has a wonderful view into the courtyard. The courtyard provides a peaceful and beautiful place to walk and fellowship and has helped my parents connect with other residents. According to my mother-in-law, the food is great! Because of her food allergies, I expected her to have issues but she has been extremely pleased with the food. The activities are good - I wish there were a few more throughout the day but the ones they have, are good. My in-laws are very pleased with San Marino.

Dad is happy!

Dad is happy to be there! The first night Dad got there he chose shrimp scampi and was amazed how many shrimp he had. The staff are pleasant and do a good job of cleaning his apartment and doing his laundry. Dad fell about a week ago and hit his head. The staff came quickly and called an ambulance to take him to the ER because she he's on blood thinners. They call my sister who lives 10 minutes from San Marino and told her what hospital he was going to. Dad enjoys the activities like Wii bowling ( they even gave tournaments) bingo and black jack ( but not for money). He has meant other people living there because of the activities. His apartment is a studio. He has plenty of room for his bed, a stand to hold his tv and a recliner that stands you up so he can get out easily. He has a nice bathroom with a walk in shower. He has a closet for his clothes. He has a small kitchen with a sink and a refrigerator and cupboards to hold his food. He also has room for his microwave.

Very impressed with San Marino. Very clean And friendly staff. We visited 5 assisted living communities and San Marino was the most impressive of all. Also was the least expensive. I would recommend for anyone to visit San Marino before they made any decision. Thank you San Marino! Darwin and Millie

Very nice facility, reasonable from others I have seen at [Amount Removed] for a two bedroom. Staff was very friendly, they have many activities for residents. On site medical people, courtesy rides if necessary for medical appointments. I was very impressed with them. Certainly the best for me of those I have seen so far.

I had a virtual tour as I live far away. It was very helpful and and informative. I was able to get a good overall idea of the facilities. However, it is limited which is why I could not assess cleanliness nor condition of the buildings. It certainly is a facility I would consider moving into.

our family's great experience with San Marino

I will get all of these fives except for number the food I would give a three and the value for cost I would give a four. My Mom loves the community there. She has made many friends and has settled into the daily routines they offer. She does tell me regularly that the food isn't great, she ends up cooking most of her meals I think. I wish there was another meal plan option that could lower her monthly costs some.

Do not recommend

Staffing overall was low and it often took 20 minutes or so for someone to answer calls. [name removed] was to have escort to and from restroom per her care plan. This often did not happen and she would have to get there herself. She did have a fall and broke her hip. They did not order some of her meds in a timely manner and she had to go several days without her pain medication. Her oxycodone was stolen from med cart, so the another wait. [name removed] needed wanted to eat meals in her room. They would only bring her the "special of the day" which mostly was things she wouldn't eat. She was not given the option to order from the alternative menu. All in all, not very happy with care. At the end of her life, it was still hard to get timely help. The facility was clean and well taken care of. Laundry done on her assigned day. Staffing unacceptable. Discussed with management multiple times and reassured that things would improve, but never did.

The property is absolutely beautiful, inside and out. Everyone was so welcoming and engaging. I immediately felt right at home as soon as I walked in the door. The staff were so kind and nice and answered all of my questions. The residents were so welcoming that several people invited to sit down with them at their table in the dining room to have lunch. What an amazing group of folks! The prices fit right within my budget too!
