Kind Staff, Happy Atmosphere, and Peace of Mind

It definitely stood out compared to the others I toured. The facility was clean and smelled nice. The apartments were bigger than other places and arranged well. They were a smaller living space but super cute and perfect for my mom since that's what she needed. All the staff were really kind and patient with the residents and friendly to me during my tour. The whole vibe of the place was as positive and happy. The dining area was clean and the food smelled good. The activities seemed fun and there were a few I knew my mom would like - bible study was one.

I was very interested in how my loved one would spend their day. There were multiple places for a memory care resident to sit when they are not in their unit.

Room for improvement

My husband has been there since [date removed]. They called me in May to inform me that they increased his Monthly Care Fee by $[removed], starting in July. I asked why, since at his admission, he had a Foley catheter, but it was d/c'd by his Urologist on [date removed], and since he is continent of bowel and bladder, I didn't understand the increase. I met with [name removed] to review my husband's recent assessment last Tuesday and found several errors. They listed him as having hearing aids, which he never had, and as being incontinent. When my husband needs to urinate, he calls out that he needs to pee, and when no staff responds, he will urinate from his wheelchair wherever he is located. 3 weeks ago, my husband was sent to the ER for weakness. He was so dehydrated that he had developed a UTI and was too weak to get out of bed. The hospital treated him with IV fluids and antibiotics, and could have released him after 3 days, but Discovery Village refused to take him back due to being short staffed. Discovery Village was only giving my husband 3/4 of a glass of water or juice at dinner, so I met with [name removed] to request additional fluids to prevent dehydration in the future. She agreed that he will get 2 glasses with his dinners. They do have some very good, caring staff taking care of the residents.

Discovery Village at the West End

The admissions staff, the front desk staff, the first and second shift aids and the dining room staff have all been great. The therapy staff through Fox Rehab have been amazing and very responsive. The administration has 3 brand new people at the very top... their health and wellness director, their executive director and the assistant to the health and wellness director are all brand new. We have had many many issues with response time after pushing the call bell. The activities have been ok but I would love to see more engaging and stimulating activities offered regularly that aren't centered around food.

Review for Discovery Village at the West End AL and MC

They weren't terrible, but we did leave after less than 2 weeks! Nice large kitchens in all the rooms and ample storage but we felt they dropped the ball on some things. Would probably not recommend.
