An ok community.

This is not a very active community. When we were there the hallways were empty and the only time the residents got together was at meal time. The food was ok, however sometimes it was not cooked enough for some of the residents to chew it. The community is clean and the staff were nice.

My first two months at Fountain View

Think there is more explanation needed of who is the go to person for different things...like who would have known that you go to the activities department people for the podiatrist coming in, etc. Also tidbits a day ahead of time to explain what different entertainment is like what type of music they will play.

Much needed respite care provided

I needed respite care for my mother until her stuff could be moved down from Utah. Orchard Pointe was the only place I visited that had a room open. It's very new, so I don't have any previous state inspections (surveys) to guide my choice. I did eliminate several sites based on information from these surveys. Being brand new, it's extremely clean and nice. Also, they offered $500 off for the first 2 full months, which made it affordable. Mom seems to be comfortable and adjusting just fine. The day after she moved in she went to lunch and sat with someone and "we talked and talked just like old friends". It made my heart glow.

Overall would recommend

It's a nice clean environment with good sized rooms. Activities each morning and afternoon plus 1 to 2 outings a month. The staff seemed to be doing their best yet sometimes Memory Care could use more staff to meet all the needs of the residents at peak times.

Things to know

[name removed] is the first person you meet with. - Loved her. My sister and I both did. She's wonderful at her job. Caring, honest and loves her job. My cousin wasn't doing what he he needed to do of course we had to start paying for more and more. Which we totally understand. We thought things were going well and then we get a call from the new interim manager. I can't think of her name. They made her into that position. She had been there some time. We get a call saying that he needed to go very rude so we had like a week to get him into another facility. That is when we found out Benton house had been sold so things started making sense to how everything happened. We did get my cousin moved out, but his comforter had been missing and we asked about it and they said yes it's in the wash so the last day that we went to get his last of his belongings, my sister goes there like what is that smell? They had actually taken the comforter never washed it put it in a plastic bag and just put it in his room for us to pick up. It filthy gross from an accident he had. We just threw it away. We do know that my cousin wasn't asking for help when he needed it and was becoming a fall risk. It was just the way it was done was very disappointing. My parents had eaten there with my cousin a few times and they loved the live music playing - I think someone played the piano and they loved listening to it. They said the food was really good.

Excellent staff, they truly care, but too few of them. Other improvements needed!

The staff to memory care client ratio is too small for my liking. If one client needs extra help, which takes the staff member away for a time, then they are really short on staff. It's minimal staffing all the time and I worry, but I have nothing to compare this to as it is my first experience. The memory care common area reeks of urine. All of the sofas and chairs smell and some are stained. I try not to sit on the furniture when visiting my father. I brought it up but they only said they are waiting for approval. Approval? This should be a regular cleaning scheduled as nearly every memory care client is incontinent! The staff know it's a problem but are waiting for something to be done. The positive is the day to day staff. They are super friendly and so patient with their clients! I watch them handle my father on video and they are so great with him as he is stubborn and when he needs changed, they know just how hard to push him and how playful to be as well. So the care given by the staff, when they are available is excellent 5/5 but there are too few of them at any one time to check to see if my dad needs changed. Hence the urine soaked couches. But the staff is really great! Noble Hospice is the cherry on top. Dad is in hospice care and that gives him another level of extra care for showering and changing and all the little things. They help fill a gap that I did not even expect! Again, I have nothing to compare this place to. I chose it because it was small so that my dad would get plenty of attention but the reality is the client to staff ratio is also lower. Great staff but far too few. I guess we just want more care for our loved ones that is not reasonable even at such a huge expense. But he is safe and has 24/7 care available and it's worth that peace of mind. Orchard Point was recently acquired and still having bugs. Problems getting through on the direct phone to the memory care on too many occasions. But they listen to me and my requests and are always helping me with solutions to problems dad is going through. I was hard on them on the scale but overall and after they get a few things straightened out, I would recommend them.

Respite Care at Benton House if Staley Hills

The staff was kind and caring. Communication between employees at shift change was poor and unorganized. Husband needed help with showering, but he did not receive it. Meals were mediocre. He could not adjust to living in a memory care environment, but that was not a fault of the facility. He apparently needs more one on one care that provides him a better sense of security.

I would tell them that it's a safe place for a loved one and the staff is friendly and do their best to take care of the residents. No place is absolutely perfect, but I would recommend Benton House to a friend if they asked.

Heritage at Northern Hills Assisted Living Review

There is NO communication. The move in process was easy and they were very welcoming to our mom. The meals are very good. It's like a restaurant with 2 choices each meal. The housekeeping is very good. My recommendation is communication. Any communication. There is none. Or have a face to face sit down meeting, at the minimum, after the first 30 days.

I am currently a resident at Broadwell Senior Living Kearney and overall everything has been good for me here at this facility. The cleanliness and the staff are great. The care services and the activities are okay. This facility is just fine, I just don't fit in with a lot of the residents here. Senior living is very expensive. Overall, I would recommend Broadwell Senior Living Kearney to others.

Hoping for improvements

Staff members are very kind and engaging with residents and family at MorningStar Assisted Living and Memory Care at Arrowhead. However, the turnover of employees is concerning. Family and residents get very happy and comfortable with a staff member, then she leaves. The move in process was smooth and good. The cleanliness of the main family room area is very good. Housekeeping of my parents' room is not very good. There is a different cleaning staff every time and they just do basic surface cleaning. I always bring a bag of supplies and clean the toilet, bathroom and floors. Their laundry basket is always full. They often only have one bath towel available. Responsiveness of responsible staff has been poor. Initially, the food was not good quality and my parents were not eating. A few weeks later, the food improved and my parents were very happy. The staff said that a new chef began. I'm happy to see improvement in the food quality. It would be incredible if family can receive a weekly menu and document recommended changes. I've tried a couple times with the menu printed at the front desk and making notations, X's on foods my parents will not eat and then ask staff to provide the document with notations to the cooking staff. It worked twice with requested changes, but that was it. I'm guessing it was confusing for the cooking staff to see the handwritten notations all over their weekly menu. An emailed menu, with change recommendations, might be cleaner and easier for the cooking staff to understand. Activities in Memory Care are very sparse. The residents need to be physically engaged and invited to participate in different activities. Back to routines, musician on Thursdays at certain time, movie Wednesday with old Elvis movies, etc. Routine exercise and fitness is a big favorite, but also very sparse. If someone does not personally go and tell my parents they are invited to join, they will not, due to lack of understanding. The gentleman that did physical therapy with group chair exercises came in and gathered some residents to begin. My mom got very excited and the gentleman said he was sorry, but they did not take my parent's health insurance so he could not work with them. Unbelievable. We pay a high monthly rate for my parents' care. I understand that we moved in during a change of executive staff. I am still hopeful for improvements with structure and consistency.

Review for Benton House of Blue Springs

They are so nice, and we really loved and appreciated all the activities. However, they weren't the level of care that we needed. It would have been better to know this during the intake process. We picked this community, because of the availability and proximity to family. We were looking for a facility that had both regular care and memory care facilities.

Recommend for Assisted Living

This facility is a great place if your loved one doesn't need constant care. My loved one needs reminding for activities and they don't seem to be able to provide that. They send a weekly newsletter and a weekly menu. I would recommend this facility for people with mild or no Dementia.

It's easy to tell they're conserving on meat in the meals. They sometimes run out of food. Most of the people who eat there complain about the food to one another, but don't say anything to those in charge. The facility is kept very clean. It always looks nice. The décor and holiday decorating are very pleasant. Many of the residents are very friendly. It feels like a secure, safe place to live. The apartments are cozy.

Our Experience

My father fell there and hit his head and ended up having a brain bleed. I was out of state, they knew they were to call me first as I was power of attorney and his medical point of contact. When I called and asked where he was, they weren't certain where he actually was. It was a nice place, people are very nice but you better be healthy otherwise not a great experience in my opinion. The medical techs were very attentive and had decent response time at times. They made me pay the entire month of July even though we advised him that in June he was not coming back. After he passed, I did reach out to them and they partially refunded me for that month.

Only a pretty picture

I was disappointed in our experience at Orchard Pointe. We ultimately had to move because they do not take long term care, but we had other issues as well. There was a staff member who would give my loved one life advice that I felt was not appropriate or professional. They were understaffed a lot and it was almost impossible to get a hold of anyone. They had a pediatrist come in and I asked many times for them to come see my loved one and it never happened. They did not use things that we gave them and also did not follow doctors orders. I felt they were overpriced for what was offered and I wouldn't recommend them.

My mom liked that Benton House was new (2yrs) construction, but they have zero security systems in place and don't even plan to install a camera at the front of the house at this time. She likes Benton House because it is new and the residents are younger, more lively and seem happier. At Benton House the individuals were PCAs and one RN for both assisted living and memory care. The residents are tracked by their emergency lanyard/button (I didn't see anyone wearing theirs), which leaves the resident responsible for his/her personal safety.
